ggFTW SOPA Initiative

ggFTW News

You likely arrived at this page curious about the large banner blocking your view of ggFTW. This is metaphorically accurate. If either of two bills--SOPA or PIPA--pass Congress as-is, sites like ggFTW, YouTube, and Wikipedia will go dark. Instead of a large black bar, there will be no ggFTW.

What’s worse, the United States will set a very dangerous precedent regarding free speech and civil rights.

To raise awareness of SOPA and PIPA, ggFTW has decided to join sites like Wikipedia, Reddit, and Craigslist in a global Internet blackout. The bar will remain from midnight to midnight, Jan 18-19, 2012. Please read Wikipedia's writeup about the impact of SOPA and PIPA to learn what you can do to help stop this draconian measure from passing.

Oh, and even if you're not from the US, this affects you.

We've removed the banner from the site; however, the threat is not over. Please speak out against this looming threat to a free and open Internet!

"Although massive protests by the likes of Wikipedia and Google have delayed a vote on SOPA, the bill is set to return to the House floor next month."

To those of you who honestly think Obama is going to veto this, you're lying to yourself. He's spineless and contrary to popular belief, the President does not have supreme authority over everything that happens in America.

And to those of you who think this is just an American problem, you're even stupider. If you truly believe that SOPA isn't coming to A COUNTRY NEAR YOU after the US passes it, good luck LOL.

Europe and Asia follow everything America does.

Screw this, I'm moving to Mexico.

So if I said that im Al-Qaeda terrorist in my guild chat, they have the right to track my IP and arrest me? o.o

That's pretty much what it comes down to. However you probably wouldn't be arrested. It's real reason for passing was basically to quell any political uprisings. I could go into more details but I'd only be labeled a "conspiracy theorist" then. Suffice to say however, the purpose of this legislation was to silence anyone who opposes the US government. It essentially legalizes martial law amongst other things. I would suggest if you want more info, you can look it up yourself and form your own opinion. Look at infowars.com and click on the news dropdown menu on the top and select your category. They have daily updates. It's essentially an alternative news website not controlled by our government, so the scope of broader and more accurate. Ever heard the mainstream US media speak of the NDAA? I havn't. This site lays out the truth.

If this is real, then the internet will be changed FOREVER Stupid politicians...

Sadly, this isn't the worst of their measures that have recently passed. IMO the NDAA will do alot more damage than SOPA. The NDAA give the government the legal right to abduct anyone in the world (including american citizens) and hold them as a "terrorist" without trial or any right presented under normal circumstances. Obama has just been on a signing spree lately with all these draconian pieces of legislation. He probably would pass SOPA too if congress wasn't receiving all the pressure against it that they have been. For now, they have said that they have set SOPA aside and it will be voted on another time. Probably going to put it to vote when everyones attention is elsewhere like Obama did with the NDAA. He passed it on new years eve when no one was watching him. If SOPA passes, it will probably be in the same manner.
