A bit of exciting news for any trekkies out there: Perfect World Entertainment, along with Cryptic Studios and CBS Consumer Products have announced the launch of the free-to-play Star Trek Online. The CEO of developer Cryptic Studios was exciting, saying that updating to the free-to-play model removes barriers that kept fans and casual gamers away.

With the launch of the free-to-play model of Star Trek Online, any person can download and play for free without a physical copy or subscription to the game. There are, however, various optional features for the game which may be accessed through a virtual store.
