Once you play WoW, it's going to be very hard to find a better game. After a year and a half, I'm still searching for "the better game"
If I had not known Trickster Online before World of Warcraft, my first and ONLY MMO would be now WoW.
World of Warcraft FTW!!!!, Trickster Online FTL
been playing in private server only. and i have to say, the gameplay is nice, almost flawless. community, that will be a different story all together.
I love WoW. It's biggest pitfalls are A) Faction imbalance (Mal'Ganis is lolwtf 91% Horde or something) B) Tendency for a crappy community.
However, I feel that even though imbalance and the community can suck at times, it almost works out. The major con of imbalance is transfers. Personally I was on Mal'Ganis before I knew how imbalanced it was and I have to say... transfers gtfo, but that's more of a not in my house kind of thing.
There's a lot of websites that have server statistics though, so it's pretty easy to kind a decent server (I found Tichondrius to be pretty good, lots of action in Hellfire).
The community aspect imo also forces you to find a decent guild (which you should anyway to avoid pugs), and it makes the game overall more fun. I'm the ONLY girl in my guild and it's honestly a blast, it's like a HOLYSHITGIRLINVENT kind of fun that never gets old.
Leveling in vanilla at the moment can be rough, most people are far too impatient and it can be pretty dry, but I hear that Cata will change that. Wrath is somewhat easier compared to BC but it still has it's merit, I really wish I was around for BC but I'm excited that I'm around to be able to experience Cata as well.
Fun game, a lot better if you have a rl friend to play with imo. I currently play with my boyfriend (inb4met over net, cause it's false), my best friend and her boyfriend.
All in all, awesome game, my only suggestion to you there, thinking about signing up: take your time, learn your class, don't less the bad community get you down, and have fun!
The new LFD (Looking For Dungeon) system made the game perfect. Seriously it is! You just have to choose one of the multiple dungeons on a menu (or take random), wait 5~10mins while doing quests or w/e else, POOF! you're into a dungeon with 3 damage dealer, 1 healer and 1 tank. Isn't it awesome? It is.
Class are getting updates on every patches to keep a balance between all of them which is something that most MMORPG should do also.
My only problem with the game right now is that my server has a little faction problem... 76% horde, 24% alliance. It doesn't change anything on battlegrounds and arena but on the open pvp everywhere else.. well it can be fustrating. I wasn't so bad before they added that Faction Change service D:
Knowing Blizzard, it's a matter of time before it get fixed. During that time, try to find a 50/50 server before going into it :)
My current MMO love. WoW is a wicked awesome game.
The only major problem anybody will have is the general community, mainly if one chooses to play in the Alliance faction.
Parties are difficult to find when starting off Northrend Heroics and Raids, especially when people become so reliant on playing with their over-geared friends and find an under-geared PUG (Pick-Up Group) "awful" at their roles. However, there are typically people out there who are nice enough to let you have your chance to play and get some upgrades, but it takes a lot of patience.
Currently, Blizzard is developing a LFD (Looking For Dungeon) system for Patch 3.3 which will remove the inconveniences above, as well as allowing cross-realm grouping for any instance in the game, but we'll see how the community reacts to this feature within the next month.
