Default [To:Sysops] BBcode for the wiki?

I've spoken with a few people and have worked out getting gwBBCode to work for other games, and I was wondering if you guys would be up to putting it on the forums?

gwBBCode is basically a database that allows you to hover over skills (using overLib) and gives you popups of the skill's description based on your level. It also has a system that will allow you to make 'builds' using these popups.

In my opinion I think it would be an amazing edition to MyMMOG and set it even further as it's setting the standards for what a fansite (network) should be.

I'm guessing that the Sysops and NoeJeko himself would have to sign off on something like this, so I just wanted you guys to be aware of it.

I've been offered to have it installed by Tor of PvX who set it up there.

If you guys want to have a look at the files that it is comprised of, they are here

Quote:
You simply include PvXcode.php in LocalSettings and everything should
work fine from that point.

I imagine you'd also want to change the skill databases, if this is to
be for a different game, those are stored in gwbbcode/skill_db_1.php
and gwbbcode/skill_db_2.php.
It's very simple to setup, not too hard to make specific to a game (In this case, several games, so I'm not sure how easy it would be to make multiple skill databases from the one, but it shouldn't be too hard)

I've purposefully been boning up on my PHP to be able to provide a 'sample' of this directed towards one of the MMOG games, however I don't have any yet, I have a previously made quick attempt at a MapleStory remake that I could show however.

This would require someone to update the database, yes no?

I believe it would require an add-on for this, but the skill pages on the wiki could still slowly be converted at a normal wiki user's leisure.

This allows lots of things though like letting you show all skills on one page without much hassle (roll-over), a 'build' section for each game so that people can easily show off a build without having to either type it all out (reading those is a pain when it's in plain text) or go use a simulator (that are often a bit off or based on another version).

I'm not sure if it's possible to also make the skill_db files editable wiki files, but I'm sure that with a little tweaking it should be doable, in which case if you make it editable by only people of a certain group or higher (VIP, Sysop, etc?) it can be taken care of without needing to be done by (I'm going to assume) very few people who have access to changing server files around.

To answer your question, from what I understand no current database has to be changed right away, you would just be adding this database for now, and then we would be moving over skill pages to reflect changes. There are a few games with skills either all thrown together on one page (and a lot of them) or not finished yet (going to guess only Dragonica as of speaking, the rest should be done so far) and it would be slightly easier to have this done and then toss them all on one page.

I'm not sure if this also directly allows the use of overLib through this, but overLib is nice to have on almost any database (personal opinion), if used correctly.

Hum, well ultimately it's up to Noe, as he's the only one who could add such a thing. I think it would be a nice addon but I'm weary to make it be a standard because of two reasons.
1. it uses javascript, something many people leave off as well as obfuscating the data for bots
2. it requires someone to maintain a database of the skills since it is not made to parse wiki pages which means someone would need to maintain that for each of our games... which we have trouble finding people to even just edit the wiki pages which are easy to edit by anyone :x
dunno!
think it could look really neat though.
