Here on /ggFTW we have a reputation system, which helps to recognize helpful members, and unhelpful ones. This system can be good for giving members recognition for doing good deeds or negative ones for bad deeds.
Here I will explain how and when you should use it.
Here are a few things you should know before getting started:
- You require at least 50 posts to be able to give Positive and Negative Reputation (+/- #)
- If you are under the 50 post requirement, your reputation power will be neutral (+/-0)
- If you have negative reputation, your reputation power will be neutral (+/- 0)
- You can still add or remove reputation for someone, even if they have it disabled (Blue bar)
- You can hide your current reputation after you attain 500 Posts, VIP status or Donator/Supporter status
- If someone sends you a vulgar or racist comment, you can report it to staff and we will deal with the user accordingly
- Reputation is always anonymous (However staff can view the names when necessary)
---------
Before giving it out, you need to think what type should I give to the post in question?
Here is a brief example of what type to give in certain situations.
Reasons to give Positive Reputation - - If you had a question, and someone gave you the correct answer.
- If a members post helped you out in any way.
- If a member made a nice contribution. (Guides, helpful tools ect.)
- If you strongly agree with their post/opinion
Reasons to give Negative Reputation - - Members post hijacks the thread or attempts to go off topic.
- Member post is uninformative and was not intended to help you.
- Member says a comment you find to be rude, or uncalled for.
When you decided what to provide, you will go to the left of the post, and click the reputation button -
Giving Positive Reputation -
here you would click
I Approve, and type out your reason.
Giving Negative Reputation -
here you would click
I Disagree, then type out your reason.
It must be a good reason, or the member won't learn from their mistake!
After you click
Add to Reputation, the user is notified and can see your reason in his/her UserCP.
Understanding the color in the user cp

- Positive Reputation, which gives you points based on the power of the member who provided it.

- Neutral, Does not affect your reputation level. Neutral rep will always remain neutral at all times.

- Negative Reputation, which takes away your reputation points based on the power of the member who removed it.
---
How do I know my reputation power?
Sadly there is no way to simply view it, so there is math involved.
- 180 days after registration gives +1 rep.
- Every 100 posts adds +1 rep power
- Every 50 rep points adds +1 to rep power
-------------
About the Green/Red Boxes in members profile -
By default you start out with a dim green pip, as you slowly start to gain or lose reputation, the number of pips under your name will change with it.
The more positive reputation you gain, the more green pips you obtain, and the more negative reputation you gain, the more red pips you obtain.
Positive reputation will further increase your reputation points, thus you will obtain more green ones the higher your reputation points raise.
Same rules apply for the red pips, although you will be in the negatives in reputation points (-#)
100 points is required for an additional dim pip
/
200 points is required for an additional bright pip
/

(only after you gain 5 dim pips)
-----
Disabling/Hiding your Reputation -
If for any reason you wish to disable reputation simply go to the UserCP -> Edit Options and deselect the "Show your Reputation" checkbox.
Your green or red reputation will then become a black box (

) indicating that you have hidden/disabled your reputation.
You can still give reputation to someone who disabled it, but it won't display until the user re-enables it.
Just recheck the box to display your reputation again.

I do hope this helps you understand the reputation system a lot better.
If you do have any questions then feel free to ask me, and I will get back to it ASAP.
Thanks for your time,
