How to: Use Member Reputation

Before we begin here are some important things you should know about our reputation system:
---------

Because of the removal of negative reputation, information has been revised to reflect this change.
The system has more or less become a "Thanks" system, so use it with that intended purpose.

Reasons to give Positive Reputation -
  • If you had a question, and someone gave you the correct answer.
  • If a members post helped you out in any way.
  • If a member made a nice contribution. (Guides, helpful tools ect.)
  • If you strongly agree with their post/opinion

When you wish to thank someone or show some support, click the reputation button - /forum/members/light...52-repicon.png

Sending Positive Reputation -
I approve has already been selected for you, all you need to do is type out your reason.

/forum/members/light...21351-rep2.jpg

After you click Add to Reputation, the user is notified and can see your reason in his/her UserCP.

Understanding the color in the UserCP

http://img.ggftw.com/reputation/reputation_pos.gif - Positive Reputation received that adds points based on the providers reputation power.

http://img.ggftw.com/reputation/reputation_balance.gif - Neutral Reputation that does not affect your current reputation. Neutral rep will always remain neutral.

http://img.ggftw.com/reputation/reputation_neg.gif - Negative Reputation which takes away from your reputation points based on the providers reputation power.
  • Negative Reputation received after 04/11/2011 will deduct exactly 1,000 points.

------

How do I know my reputation power?
Sadly there is no simple way to view it, some basic math is involved to calculate your power.
  • 180 days after registration gives +1 rep.
  • Every 100 posts adds +1 rep power
  • Every 50 rep points adds +1 to rep power

Example
Join Date: 01-15-2008 (1380 Days ago)
Total Posts: 5,159
Current Reputation: 3,445

(1380 180) + (5159 100) + (3445 50) =
Exclude anything behind the decimal point, then add it all up.

7 + 51 + 68 = 126 Reputation Power
------

Understanding the Green/Red Boxes in members profile -

For every set number of points you have, you'll have a visual representation known as a "pip" under your avatar.

By default you start out with 10 reputation points which provides you with 1 green pip; as you slowly start to gain or lose reputation, the number of pips under your name will change accordingly.

The number of pips you receive depend on your current reputation points, green pips are received when this number is in the positives; likewise red pips are received when further down the negatives.

Every 100 points will add a dim pip http://img.ggftw.com/reputation/reputation_pos.gif / http://img.ggftw.com/reputation/reputation_neg.gif
Every 200 points after receiving 5 dim pips will add an additional bright pip http://img.ggftw.com/reputation/reputation_highpos.gif
/ http://img.ggftw.com/reputation/reputation_highneg.gif

/forum/members/light...3-repchart.png

If you have exactly 0 reputation points, you'll have the neutral pip (http://asset.103.ggftw.net/reputatio...on_balance.gif)
-----

Disabling/Hiding your Reputation -

If for any reason you wish to disable reputation simply go to the UserCP -> Edit Options and deselect the "Show your Reputation" checkbox.

/forum/members/light...896-disrep.png

Your green or red reputation will then become a black box (http://img.ggftw.com/reputation/reputation_off.gif) indicating that you have hidden/disabled your reputation.
You can still give reputation to someone who disabled it, but it won't display until the user re-enables it.

Just recheck the box to display your reputation again.
----------

All information is accurate as of October 27th, 2011.

Thanks for your time,
Light

ZeR 10-16-2008 06:10 AM

is there anything about how many +ve or -ve points required for one bar of rep?

Light 10-16-2008 06:24 AM

It's 100 points per pip.

Vegeance 10-16-2008 06:37 AM

A reasonably concise guide, though I already knew of this :p

phantastic 10-16-2008 06:45 AM

I sure hope reputation power isn't based on post count, but only reputation gotten and registration time, else it's gonna be spam time :P

khyle 10-16-2008 07:26 AM

it would be nice if people starts using this system, but not to the extent of abusing it
this so far had been merely decorations Q__Q

thanks for the guide~

Moonflow 10-16-2008 10:04 AM

i've dished out a couple of negatives today, cos i ish ebil XD

but they deserved it in my honest opinion.

eSheep 10-16-2008 11:27 AM

I found it helpful and a bit ironic in the fact that I repped you.

Is there any way to check the rep that you/someone else has gotten?

you can check your own rep by going to user cp.
you can only see the comment tho, not who left it.

only mods? / admins can see other peoples reps and who rep'd

I have come across this question a lot recently.
And here is how it works -
  • By default, a user adds 1 to their target's reputation (reputation altering power, RAP)
  • For every 365 days they've been registered, their RAP increases by 1
  • For every 1000 posts they have, their RAP increases by 1
  • For every 100 reputation points they have, their RAP increases by 1
So if Joe has been registered 2 years, has 4000 posts, and has 300 reputation, every time Joe gives reputation to someone it will count as 10 points to the target user.
~Thanks to Noe for info

You can check your RAP by simply going to the main page MyMMOGames and it will be in the top right corner. (As you can see, mine is 3)

Hope that clears up any more questions.

Thanks for the reputations btw, it's good to see people using the system.

Light 11-20-2008 08:10 PM

Yes, its currently in effect.

(just a note, you spelled following wrong, just in case you would like to fix it, if not, fine by me, i, by no means, am, nor do i like, grammar police http://www.mymmogames.net/forum/583275-post14.html)

I'm not sure if its apropos for me to post a suggestion for reputations here, but.....
What about a chance to dispute a bad rep point?
Reason being, I have received one bad rep point that i feel was uncalled for. This was for my own personal opinion of something in a thread debating the topic.

Now, imagine that you had the chance to dispute that point? Maybe make it so that theres a section where users can see the posts that caused the rep point that the user would like to dispute and maybe, i dont know, vote on whether you feel it was in the right or wrong.

I think this would be a neat feature to add in order to make rep points a little more "accurate(?)" and even a little bit more fun for all users in the forums.

Granted, i dont think this would be an easy feature to add, if it is even possible. but yeah, just something to think about :)

Zephy 11-20-2008 11:53 PM

I like the idea too. My concern is that I don't know if there will be enough people who care over a negative rep. Some people take the negative rep as it is while others may not take it as well. I don't for the fact of how many people take it seriously. If we have enough people who actually uses this system (properly), then I will actually back up the idea.

NoeJeko 11-21-2008 06:28 AM

There will not be a system to dispute negative reputation.
