What's wrong with using a character of the opposite gender? Nothing.
Are people honestly so uncomfortable with their own gender and identity that they're afraid of their pixels being of a different gender? Just my opinion..

Nereus staff - is the glow visible? Does it glow a lot? Or are you able to show me it in game?
Anyone can describe the glow? I don't find SS helping.
