Why should you refine the item before comping it?

Ok, I was wondering if why should you refine an item before comping it or can you comp it now then refine it later?

You can compound now, refine later.

If it's a non-MyShop item, it's better to refine before compounding; if it breaks, you at least haven't spent time/money on compounding yet.

Pretty much the above poster because compounding is a lot more expensive then refining especially when the material costs like 1m ea and you need 5 per slot =shudders=

Really, you can do it in any way you want, as long as you can repair the weapon. (or if it's a MyShop item and can be used when broken.. I'm not sure if you can compound a broken item though? I really have never tried to. Anyway...)

However, the only time you should refine second is if you're going to temper the weapon first. Stats from refinement are set and will not change when tempered.
