Hey Kanoka... thank you for posting this. This is awesome and it makes me wanna play TS again.
Oh maybe I should introduce myself. My name is Jason and I'm new here. JTO was my favorite but since it blocked overseas IP, I didn't play for a while.
Actually I got a question for you. When i was trying to update JTO (by using tsunagarumon/SoftEther VPN), I will always get an error message when it update the splash file:



and after that I tried to update again and all words replaced with weird characters and unknown error occurs.



Do you what kind of problem is that and what should I do in order to fix it?
I have already uninstall and reinstall for like 6 times.... / _ \

solution:
NEVER have a vpn active while updating the client.

also:
Make sure to Have your time zone set to Tokyo
Make sure your systems locale and unicode is set to japanese.

Also beware that there is a "initial update". for fresh installs.

This initial update usually takes 2-4 hours. and ends up with a message.
this message is NOT and error. it pretty much means: Initial update is done. Please restart client to proceed with update

Then when you restart the client, the most recent content will be loaded~.
(which usually takes me 2 minutes to complete(

Hiragana capcha is where there give u picture of a few hiragana symbols. and you gotta type it in the box below.

options to do it:
Learn hiragana. then type it in.

Ask a friend who knows hiragana. (maybe over skype or irl)

have a hiragana chart, and just plug it in from the chart.

Hi Kanoka, I hope you can help me... Basically I've been getting the same problem as h4de5, the same error comes up as soon as the update reaches the Splash.exe file (picture here http://puu.sh/2CNav.jpg). However, I'm not using the VPN at the same time, and I've changed everything like the locale and stuff to Japan. Is there any way to fix it?

Kanoka, I have a problem. As I am playing Japanese trickster, I keep disconnecting every 2 minutes. Do you know what the problem is and do you know how I could stop it from happening?
Oh and by the way, what is your polar bear called on japanese trickster and what is your guild called? Because I made a character!

Uhm I actually quit 2 years ago, and I got a sudden itch to play again, but found out eTO Trickster is already gone . I was wondering if anyone wanted to play jTO with me, I'm on Fantasia but its really not fun without other people, if you guys want to play hmu, if not I'll just grind at Path to Oops until 400.

I've been away due to school work, and i have been playing jTO (or ANY games) for quite a while x,x

Sadly seems like my guild pretty much died while I was gone x,x,
But if you wish to join it as a sub-master, and help host newcomers I can arrange that~.

As for the said issue:

if you got:
Timezone set to tokyo
system unicode set to japanese
and japanese letter support added
Try updating jTO again. As I noticed before, There is an initial update. You gotta run the updater again for the rest of the update.
I only remember two errors atm:
one that says Splash.dmy in that pretty much says that the updater has updated, please restart the program

And the other one That happens during the rest of the update:
アップデート中誤謬が発生しました. アップデートをもうー度実行してくだきい.
which is error during the update has occurred, please run the updater again.
If this happens, run the updater again. it will start out from where it last errored.
(If you were using a vpn while updating, the error will pop up a lot, and it can even stop it from progressing past a certain point)

For you disconnecting issue:
did you try out the new VPNGate Vpns yet? (via softether PacketIX)
I updated my guide a while ago, as i found this vpn worked the best, and was the most reliable.

Tsunagarumon has gotten pretty glitchy and unreliable due to the high amounts of traffic it faces.(that, and the fact the windows 7's vpn built in dialer is glitchy)

so give vpngate a try: Connect to VPN Gate by Using SoftEther VPN (SSL-VPN)

Else, the best i can say is, try to find a more stable internet connection, and/or check your routers port forwarding/vpn allowance settings.

I found that different locations, and different infrastructural led to varying results in speed and stabillity:
IE:
at my house: Slower(still very playable), but stable
At my universities library: Fastest, Stable (less than my house)
At mcdonalds: Slowest, Least stable.
At macy's: N/A. Their routers block vpns
At the dorm: Normal speed, but unstable (depends on what roommates are doing)
