There's some odd shit going on in my mom's Vaio. Out of the blue, it started lagging at random intervals. One minute it's fast, and the next minute the words you're typing aren't registering because of the lag.

It's doesn't only happen when browsing online. It also happens on other applications, such as opening/closing windows.

The first thing I thought of was a virus or malware infections. Norton couldn't detect anything. Malwarebytes came up empty. I defragmented, cleaned up with CCleaner, and I still don't know what's going on.

1. Ctrl + Shift + Esc
Processes Tab
Check if any CPU Usage spikes when it lags (Leave it at the corner while you use)

2. Check your Antivirus runtime scans (The one which says last scanned file)
See if any programs is causing it to scan repeatedly (If it is a legit program add it to exclusions)

3. If your PC is old check your HDD for errors it might be just the hdd dying.
HD Tune website <-- just check for errors and health

4. Start -> Run -> eventvwr
Look through the System and Application Logs and see if there's any serious errors.

5. Do windows update and ensure everything it up to date.

6. If you install anything recently try uninstalling it.

Thanks. I'll try those when I see my mom again.

Her laptop should be fast. It's a new Vaio barely 6 months old with great specs. Way too overpowered for a lappy used just to browse the net. ~_~ Then she complained that it started lagging for no reason.

mostly :x, vaio mostly filled with those bloated and junk software upon purchase, but you can disable/uninstall the auto-start unnecessary vaio startup programs
