vista desktop freezes after startup

so... i've been having this trouble for the past couple of days.

one day, i booted up my computer and it didn't start up at all. after around 10 minutes of waiting or so, i was forced to hold on the power button until it shut down. when i tried to start it up again, it was fine (although i did hear the fan violently blowing for a short while), or atleast it was fine until i tried doing anything.

but now, after it starts up, it freezes after around 2 minutes - 3 hours. it doesn't freeze permanently, but it's to the point where it's impossible to do anything, as i'm granted a single movement of the cursor after a couple minutes of waiting. i tried reformatting but it didn't really seem to do anything, and i don't want to touch the insides of the pc casing until i get an idea of what's wrong. halp pls? ;-;

Its either your hard drive is failing (violent fan-like sounds) or you have faulty ram. Try resetting your RAM.

Also check to see if every fan in the system is running.
like the one in power supply, graphics card etc.

I presume symantec and avast are scanning each other in a endless loop.

Not only that, but there's comodo as well... so triple loop?

You should stick to only 1 anti virus suite. Unless you're familiar with how to set them up well.

My suggestion is... Uninstall all your anti-viruses using the uninstallers from their website or if they came with one that one. Reboot your computer and install only 1. See if that helps making it not crash.

Is your Comodo Firewall or antivirus?

sorry i disappeared. thanks for all the replies, i didn't notice i still had symantec installed. and i use comodo firewall, not its antivirus. =x

unfortunately my computer was taken away from me to get repaired (just got it back) due to my mother freaking out, but really, thanks for the helpful responses.
