Windows 7 Missing Icons

I haven't been on my laptop all day and just logged on. I noticed something different and about half my icons were just plain missing.

CCleaner's icon showed up as the white page looking icon and when I right clicked on it, it said the program doesn't exist / etc. I looked in the start menu and all the programs are still there and will open when I click on them, I just don't understand why they suddenly up and disappeared. I haven't done anything on my laptop except watching anime / playing LoL (and coming on here lol)

Is this some kind of sign my hard drive is going (again)?

if it's just icons on your desktop for each program then it's just an issue with the shortcuts, not the programs themselves. If all the programs still function and icons still exist in other areas like Start->All Programs or My Computer->C:\Program files, then simply create new shortcuts. How do you do that?
-Simply go to Start->All programs, find the program you want to make a new shortcut for, right click, open file location.
-In the file location, right click the executable for the program then click and drag it to your desktop. You should then get 4 options (copy, move, create shortcut or cancel) where the obvious choice to to "create shortcuts here".

You should now have a new shortcut for the program you want to launch from your desktop (though the shortcut name might be different but you can always rename it).

I just found it weird that half of them are randomly gone after it being off for a whole day lol.

The only problem with this is... he did mention some shortcuts resulted in "program doesn't exist" meaning the shortcut is broken, not just a missing icon.
