That's what I used to think, but it will probably be exactly the opposite when I really have kids.

I'm Asian. In fact, from SEA. I'm put in a rather competitive environment and my mom never have any issues IF I was working hard or not. I can perform exceptionally in one semester and deliberately flunk the next to kill all the advantages I have , and she wont give a damn. She's more concern on where to dine with my dad the next weekend.

Lol....well pretty much all asian parents follow gradings by these standards:

A+ : Above Average
A: Average
B: Bad (forced to study more)
C: Crap (Tuition + 98237489 hrs more of studying)
D: Doomed (*whip* I'm sure people know where that's going...[rotan anyone? lol])
E: Executed (Death by which you should probably run and hide)
F: F**ked (executed,tortured.....0% chance of survival)

Never known what it's like to have a grade lower than an A. But I know that Es and Fs don't get you killed here.

It's kinda different because she's not my mom, but she's constantly yelling at me for things like not cheating people out of their money or giving them as much food as they paid for or something insane like that.

o.o I'm sure she means well- but if you feel you are in the right you should make a stand. Tell her that you do study enough and that driving through a red light would be irresponsible of you.

parents criticize because they care about your well being, even if they do go a little overboard sometimes.

Another reason could be that they're living their dreams through you. They want you to be the person they wanted to become but did not achieve.

...Actually, I do remember reading about this 12yo girl who tried to change the F on her result slip into an A. Needless to say her parents found out.....and she committed suicide.

Sounds like that was probably in England then seeing as the entire time I've lived in the UK the people in England seem to go incredibly emo and kill themselves for getting As and Bs instead of A*s. UK does A* instead of A+, don't ask me why I don't know.

Or she knew the next few years of her life were over. Maybe she knew her parents were literally gonna give her a punishment that would make the next years of her life a living hell. Can you imagine something like, no T.V, no games, no party occasions, no friend invites? I'd hang myself on the spot.

One time I forgot an exam paper had two sides and cried my eyes out all the way home. My mom made me hot cocoa and told me I'll remember next time and that she loved me =)
