Yea I got the same upgrade :/
-lost MSN Plus-
-back to Windows live-
-fml-

Yume 06-19-2012 07:26 PM

I don't like Window's Live either :( I tried to keep my older version of msn as long as possible but then was forced to update. I did have msn plus for a while, but got rid of it and kept a baby blue font colour <3

kag 06-19-2012 07:37 PM

Change compatibility and lost my messenger plus

R 06-19-2012 07:45 PM

Force updates suck. I got it today, too.

I don't think it's as bad as it was when it was first released, though. I still have MSN Plus on mine. I think the only thing I lost was the custom skin and the ability to edit your display name as you see fit.

Queen 06-19-2012 08:00 PM

I got this too.

Except 2011 is bugged on my computer and I can't get new contacts. Even after adding contacts after installing 2009, they didn't show up when I upgraded.

FFS. (If anyone can solve my problem too, that'd be great. I wouldn't mind updating if it wasn't for the fact I can't see a few people :/)

Janna 06-19-2012 08:09 PM

I can't get mine to work lol, I've tried upgrading in the past but always got an error and it reverts back to old MSN. Was just trying to uninstall old MSN to download the new one, but that doesn't work either; I get some messenger.msi error. Can't uninstall old MSN to install new one, can't upgrade to new MSN using my current MSN. What do I do now? XD;

edit: nvm, Microsoft Fix It seemed to do the trick!

AnaSyami 06-20-2012 12:07 AM

Yeah I was so bummed out by it when I saw. But I guess one good thing is the webcam feature i liked how the normal size (not the full screen) was pretty big :3 besides that I missed my colorful name >: r.i.p.

Chites 06-20-2012 03:19 PM

I just posted this on another forum, but I think it'll be just as useful to you guys, so sorry for the copy-pasting:

I'm posting this (and registered, actually!) to post something that worked for me when it tried to force me to update. Download Resource Hacker, open MSN's .exe file with it, go to Version Info and look for an option labeled 1033--Mine was in a folder named "1". Once in there, edit VALUE ProductVersion to something in the future, I was experimenting so mine is VALUE "ProductVersion", "29.0.8064.206". Despite there being other lines that look like they'd matter, this is the only one I edited, and now I can log in with the old MSN without it nagging me to update!

Hope this helps!

EDIT: If you don't have Messenger Plus, you can just set it to use Windows 2000 compatibility mode. It will disable Plus if you do have it, though.

Sunniiee 06-20-2012 06:50 PM

Setting compatibility to the NORMAL "Windows Vista" w/o service packs keeps msn plus. But my msn wasn't working correctly for some reason while other people did this and were fine... (some features were gone and if I closed my main contact list i'd have to restart my computer or log off and back on to open it again) so I gave in and updated to 2011. It's stupid though...we should only have to update if we want to.

There's an easy fix to go back down to MSN 2009 or whatever version..
Uninstall the Windows Live Essentials 2011, everything from it.
Google "Windows Live Messenger 2009 filehippo".
Download it, install it, then go to your program files, or wherever you installed MSN.

Look in Windows Live>Messenger>msnmsgr.exe

Right click msnmsgr.exe and click Properties. Then click Compatibility.
Next, click change settings for all users...Make the compatibility setting Windows XP (Service pack 2).
You're done..Should work! Changing compatibility to anything else(Windows service pack 3, windows 2000) will result in your messenger plus! not working. Service pack 2 loads all the add-ons i.e. messenger plus!

^I did this and my msn was malfunctioning for some odd reason. I'm currently trying the other method from Chites because my friend recommended something similar to it. :v

Edit: Didn't work for me either. It said something like Can't save ______ something idr. so i closed it and it asked if i wanted to save or not so i clicked yes, and it made it a save as instead and I was clueless as to what to save it as

Put the entire folder on your desktop.

Stupid admin stuff won't let you save stuff in your Program Files.

Sunniiee 06-21-2012 12:27 AM

I'd try that except I already fixed it, thanks a lot though! c:

Marisa 06-21-2012 06:40 AM

You're welcome XD.

2011 is not something I want to upgrade to Orz.

2009 and 2008 are my favorites :V

i had that problem last time, it has to do with one of the privacy settings where you change in your live account. You need to login with browser to change it.
I'll check later when i have time.

EDIT: I think it is "Who can contact me: friend and group invitations" or maybe "Who can find me and see my profile"

Mazuiko 06-27-2012 05:58 PM

I've pretty much adjusted to the new MSN and I don't mind it. The display names are a real pain but I've changed my name temporarily until I have to send any sort of important email that I need my real name for. Other than that it's nice and fancy.

My main problem with it? If you're going to FORCE people to upgrade to it, at least make sure it doesn't have any bugs. This being, of course, the whole "just typing and the conversation window freezing mid-sentence" thing. That freaking drives me crazy.

Sunniiee 07-03-2012 07:11 PM

^I got used to it after about a day, but hate the display name and hate not being apple to sent written-text as in the drawing thingy.
