Default Editing market causes scamming?

IMO editing the first posts in market threads is so much easier, as its usually the first thing you see when opening a thread(if its new), and it keeps the thread cleaner, instead of updating each post with a giant wall of text(if its alot.) with what youre buying/selling. It also keeps people more uptodate with what you bought/sold. Just my opinion.

Now for the question, Im just curious to know how it causes scamming? Because I have no idea how it could cause scamming, and I never seen it cause problems before it was taken out. :x Any answers would be helpful because Im just clueless.

And I guess Ill put a suggestion for it?.. To make the threads editable, but have to have a certain amount of posts/rep or maybe itrader. Im sure tons of people miss the feature.

We appreciate your suggestion. This rule has been in place since we started and there's some good logic behind it. No, editing does not "cause" scamming but it can facilitate it and investigation of scam reports on-site is usually a lengthy and oft unresolvable issue.

I understand the inconvenience this causes. If I can hear a compelling reason that outweighs the opportunity cost created by researching/settling scam cases I'll be more than happy to entertain it. If I cannot hear such a reason, I think it's in the best interest of the site to maintain the status quo.
