This is what we were trying to achieve with the forum splits we had before. In fact, if you'll remember the MMOG 2.0 project we were actually trying to create separate sites for the games while maintaining the user database.
There were two problems with this. The first is that we had to license every site separately. Even under what you're describing we have to obtain a separate license for each "customized" page. So assuming we do that for the 5 most popular games we're looking at a $629 license fee per site or $3,145 for all 5.
The second problem is simply time. I'm the only web engineer on staff and it takes every bit of my time trying to run cross-promo events (publisher sponsored), key giveaways, keep that damn botnet off here that's been attacking us for the last 2 weekends (the reason you see a 5,000 user record at the bottom of the forum), etc.
Your idea is good, please don't get me wrong -- its just not feasible with our current revenue stream. In light of this, we have to try to organize everything in a way that makes the most sense for most of the users within the constraints of our budget -- which is still in the red
every month. It's getting better but we're still not there yet.
