I just started playing yesterday so I'm still Rookie F... if this makes a difference.

Anyways... how come, whenever I aim at the island in the lagoon (instead of the fairway) this 'clash combo 2x' thing comes up and it changes my aim to out of bounds?

how does this make any gd sense at all and why can't I just take a shot at where I aim?

You don't have the drive to make it over that. The "Clash Combo" only comes into play if you bounce off stuff and still make it in the hole. To get over that, you either need more drive and put a forward powerspin on it so that it skips off the water, or you need to tomahawk it onto the green. You can HIO/albatross that hole that way, otherwise hit it down the fairway or to the little island.

If you tomahawk it, you can make it over there with a Rookie F stats (no gear) in all but 9m headwind I believe.

Aaah, well, according to the pre-shot estimator I'm more than capable of making it to the island, I wasn't even trying to make it to the green. There must have been some kind of obstacle I was hitting right off the tee because when I'd hit it'd look exactly like I shanked it or something (except it'd have a nice arc... no worm-burners)

Remember that island is lower than your tee-off point, so you have to account for that. Also, put backspin on it so the ball goes higher, and try to powerspin it so you don't roll off the edge.

If you're aiming with 1w, remember that the 3w dot is where 1w's first bounce ends up if you're just taking a regular shot. The 1w indicator is the total theoretical distance IF it has flat fairway to bounce on and carry further.

On another note, you could very well be hitting the tee marker on the side of the hole, which has happened to lots of people, including myself.
