THE mother of a woman who left her toddler inside a baking car as she shopped yesterday defended her daughter and said she forgot he was there.

The distraught 18-month-old boy was pulled from the locked 4WD in the unshaded carpark of a Sydney shopping centre on Tuesday after a hammer was used to smash a wound-up window.

It was really hot in Australia, so the temperature in the car in the hot sun can reach about 40-50 C
