Over here, capital punishment is enforced for murder and for drug possession/consumption. It's always marketed as a deterrent; when you see/hear about murderers getting hanged for their crimes, you as an average joe will think twice before doing such a thing. Of course if you're a scheming murderer this is going to be irrelevant to you but that's besides the point.

I'm pro- capital punishment definitely for murders at least. I mean, there's really no point in reasoning with or trying to change someone who had the audacity to take another's life. If you take a life, you pay for it with your own.

The problem is that the death penalty does not server as a deterrent. Sure you can take their life after the fact so that individual is never able to kill again, but by the same token you're also justifying the killing of one human by another.

If you take a life, you pay for it with your own.

Shall we kill the executors as well? Then their executors and so on?

I think that giving people more reasons not to kill instead of increasing the punishment when it happens will lower the murder rate far better. Don't even get me started on the availability of handguns in the same nations that are pro-capital punishment.

^ That's not how the law works. The 'executioner' is there to execute the law. The society itself (which comes up with the laws) is therefore accountable for executing the murderer, not the executioner.

Ideally of course, we want to restrict the public's access to arms or illegalize the possession of weapons to deter people from committing manslaughter and such. The fact is that someone who is bent on committing the said atrocity is not going to have any regard for the law anyway. This of course leads us to the question of where to draw the line with regards to second chances. Does someone who kills another human deserve a second chance at life through imprisonment and rehabilitation? This will probably be an unresolvable debate. I was simply stating that in my opinion, capital punishment is just, in light of the above scenario.
