Next Resident Evil Will Return To The Series' Origins | GamingUnion.net

Quote:
Capcom acknowledged its action horror title, Resident Evil 6, didn't receive very positive reviews upon its release like expected, even though the game managed to sell 5 million copies. Based on the feedback from players, and the excellent reception of Resident Evil: Revelations, the producer claims that the Resident Evil series will return to the its roots in the next title.

Michael Pattison, former Capcom marketing boss, said “With Resident Evil 6 specifically, we probably put too much content in there, there were comments from consumers that said it felt bloated. The Leon missions went down very well, and because we did Resident Evil Revelations on 3DS, there was a cry out for us to focus our attention on survival horror, rather than be too many things to all people. You’ll find where we go next will likely be more targeted at our core fanbase."

Pattison also said that players are not saturated of games with zombies and apocalyptic worlds, and games like The Last of Us prove that. Games like The Last of Us are a step in the right direction for what players want in a survival horror game.
