Neutrinos may have broken the speed of light
BBC News - Speed-of-light experiments give baffling result at Cern

Well, I'm crossing fingers that nobody can find a problem with these results. One step closer space travel, and then we need to rewrite science books and think of new theories.

Kowiz 09-22-2011 01:01 PM

There goes the physics textbooks.

Noctis 09-22-2011 10:54 PM

Hopefully there's nothing wrong with their results. I think it would send modern physics in an interesting direction. Although I don't think these results will affect anything we learn in school leading up to college, except they'll have to add in "These particles are the only thing known to go faster than light."

This changes yet another "Law"
Probably disproves theory of relativity in some ways.

Someone needs to stop teaching physics and teach about questioning the physics of the world instead.

Only time will tell.

Bolter 09-23-2011 09:14 AM

what? so it means that either theres something thats travelling faster than time itself and is always travelling from time to time or that the speed of light is not the speed of time?

Neutrinos still faster than light in latest version of experiment | Science |

Update. Still is not disproved.

The finding that neutrinos might break one of the most fundamental laws of physics sent scientists into a frenzy when it was first reported in September. Not only because it appeared to go against Albert Einstein's theory of special relativity but, if correct, the finding opened up the troubling possibility of being able to send information back in time, blurring the line between past and present and wreaking havoc with the fundamental principle of cause and effect.
Hold on, writing a message to myself 6 years back.

Sweet the posisbility of future FTL travel and the power to go back in time now only if they could make me a mech suit q.q

I would so be waiting for time-travel.

Time travel might not be possible when you go FTL since it was assumed the entire theory developed was based on the assumption that nothing could go faster than the speed of light in normal space.

First thing that popped up in my mind.

It isn't a "mistake" yet. They found two problems that could either overestimate or underestimate the speed of the neutrinos. I think they're only just working on troubleshooting now.

Thought Einstein did this for us LOL. Time to open physics book again ^_^

Awwwwww... A faulty optical wire.
Then again special relativity breaking down may be a huge problem given so much stuff comes from it.
