the light that hits the sword reflects into infinitely many angles creating illusions
these illusions become reflected into the mind of the opponent making them "real"

maybe the lightning is just a result of his strong physical strike which made a rip in the dimension and made him lag giving his sword the twitch like cs lag which allowed him to do several hits in one swipe
