20 gloves, 10 with cats, 10 without

tested using 10 cats on each. Got all to +7 no problem. used 10 cats for each +7 -> +8 for the ones I was using cats with, i failed 7/10 of the +7->+8, and 4 were destroyed.

Without cats, the 7->8s failed 6/10 times and were destroyed no amount of times. I kept upgrading these to +9, then sold em =)

they were all the same glove too.

EDIT;

mkkayy, so basically I realized I forgot to sum it up soo...

Using 10 cats for the +7 -> +8 I got...
7/10 FAILED
4 of the 7 got DESTROYED
3 of them SUCCEEDED


Using no cats for the +7 -> +8 I got...
6/10 FAILED
NONE were DESTROYED
Eventually all of them got to +9 WITHOUT being destroyed
orly?

erm cats are not useless
i think he just got pretty lucky using without cats.
maybe if he did for 20 gloves with cats might have won
10 is simply a sample size too small.
but still thanks for spending time and fortifying those 20 gloves.
cats simply either add more % for succeeding
or % for breaking so its both ways.

So... its safer to go to +7 with cats, then no cats from there?
Well, I think the maker deserves thanks. Whether he wants it or not. Cause this really helped.

Ill never use cats again...

anyways, if i understand this right let me see if i can help others just a bit..

Cats add to the chance of success...

lets say you have a 30% naturally, with 20 cats thats a 55% chance of success...

w/o cats, its a 70% to fail, and only 45% with cats... however

SHOULD you fail, you have one of three things happen

+0 (this is the best of the worst )
-1 (I'd rather take this than...)
Destroyed (this is when curses are hurled and players quit)

Cats increase the chance of the item actually breaking, as apparantly MANY people have experiences to support that theory. How much is unknown, but im fairly certain its insane... seeing as when i use 20 cats everytime, when i DO fail, it tends to break...

So while you have 70% fail, id say only about a third of that would actually break... so technically you have more of a 23% of breakage... while w/ cats, that extra 45% can almost be a GUARANTEED break...

i guess it depends on base stats and how much cats actually affect breakage chance, so nothing is defanite atm, dont trust what i say... but its what i think, if it makes sense go with it, if not oh well


So for now... i suggest te following
+1 - +3 just use for stones
+3 - +7/+8 use cats (i suggest 20..)
the rest, just use stones again...

Now we gotta find out about rare armour break chance Vs. others

Any recommendations on how many Catalyst is generally needed to make each grade successful?Like 1 catalyst on the first grade,3 on the 2nd,5 on the third,etc.

I don't use catalysts until my item is +4.

If you don't want to risk destroying your items, Use the max of 8 cats. I got my Drake staff to +8 by only using 4 cats each upgrade.

I tried Penguin's strategy and ended up with nine broken Legendary Elf Archer Wands. It would seem that I'm extremely unlucky. Oh, all the breaks happened before or attempting +7. My 10th wand is currently sitting at +7.
