Good Books

So, I haven't been reading much lately, and now that schools approaching, I should start reading. The thing is, I really don't know what books to read. So, does anyone have a good book they'd like to share? I really have no preference as to what genre I read, so as long as it's captivating, I'll try it. [Please, no Twilight. I have already read that, and I dislike it.]

it's about a future society where the role of women have changed from what it is today

I actually liked Nick and Norah's infinite playlist. I never watched the movie, but a friend of mine gave me the book and I thought it was nice. It had a cute story.

I liked a book called The Russian Debutante's Handbook.

It's really cool and has humor and action and pyramid schemes

If you like Warhammer 40K anything by Dan Abnett(more grimdark and gritty with a touch of humanity) or Sandy Mitchell("sucks to be you guy" and some dark humour).

I personally recommend the Jon Shannow books, the Skilganon the Damned books, Dark Moon and Echos of the Great Song as I haven't read the others. All of them (including the War40K) books have likeable characters.

I personally liked (wait, no, loved) the inheritance series by Christopher Palioni.
Three books in the series so far, Eragon, Eldest, Brisingr. Fourth book isn't out yet.
Its like either you love it, or hate it... I don't see many people that are in the mid, but I was one of those that loved it

@Kai : I don't know what HP is. D: I may start reading the Bartimaeus Trilogy.

@Metty : Erm. I don't really even know what Warhammer is. LOL I've seen some of those stores in mall though.

@Bredgen : Yeah, I've read the Inheritance series. I liked it quite a bit and plan on re-reading it to jog my memory of the series.

@orphan : I couldn't find a synopsis for 'Stranger than Fiction' , but I did find one for 'I am the Messenger' and it seems to be a promising read.

@CursedScar : I don't know why, but I dont think 'Hardball' is the kind of book for me.

Well Warhammer 40k is basically the entire galaxy is at war in the year 40,000 give or take a millennia, a decent sci-fi franchise originating from a table top game.

If that interests you, I would suggest starting off with something light such as the Gaunt's Ghosts series. It follows a group of specialist scout Imperial Guardsmens(basic infantry troops comprised of countless billions if not more of the Imperium of Man, unlike the Space Marines who basically the Imperiums super soldiers which is only a few thousand) exploits after their planet is destroyed by an enemy fleet.

If you can find them translated, I highly recommend the Ringu series by Koji Suzuki. These are worth reading even if you've already seen the movie, since the plot details are a bit different, the the story being told by a man instead of a woman (like it was in the movie).

I suggest anything by Jennifer Fallon, Cecilia Dart-Thornton, or R.A. Salvatore. They all have great books but It may be a bit hardcore fantasy for you /o/

Also, Anne Bishop is quite nice too.

If you want western cowboy like gunslinger after the world is destroyed by a tidal wave I suggest Wolf in Shadow. Want Atlantis like civilisation trying to survive after an ice age I'd suggest Echos of the Great Song, otherwise check out Dark Moon or White Wolf as they are more traditional swords and sorcery style fantasy from Gemmell.

Oh, you can also try the Belgariad series by David Eddings. It's a fantasy style book, there isn't any elves and stuff like that, but its more like gods and everyone is human, just different kinds, theres some magic, etc.
I'm actually reading them right now, on the third book, they're pretty good.
