I tried, I really did, but I couldn't...

Did you ever have a book that you really really tried to read, but couldn't finish it, and couldn't bring yourself to continue?


I've only had a few of em. "Interview with the Vampire" for one, as I read half of it in one go when i went with my mom and brother to go car shopping (for my brother), but NEVER read it again after that.

Also, I really tried hard to read "Lolita" but...well, I couldn't get into it. I think I only read it because of the content and because I knew what it was about and found the controversy and subject matter interesting, but, well, it just wasn't for me. It was well written and all, just not for me.


Anyone else got books they just couldn't finish?

I couldn't finish Lolita, too. The moment you get over the taboo shock, the rest of the book does downhill. His writing style doesn't help much, either. ._.

Actually Lolita is the only book by Nobokov I can actually finish. Other books I've tried by hiim is well--- harder than pulling a teeth that aren't lose.

As much as I love it while i'm reading it... i cannot for the life of me finish Moby ****. It's extremely long and easy to get lost in the whale talk. Every time I try it again I got further... and I love it more. But the whale science makes me quit eventually.

I'm pretty sure I'll finish is it eventually. I just wish one of my classes would make me read it so i can finish it sooner.

Hmmm other book I never finished were... Beloved, Their Eyes Were Watching God.. and ANYTHING Jane Austen. i just... i can't get into her.

World War Z...maybe I just wasn't in the right frame of mind but I had to stop reading it. Also Queen of the Damned. My god, Anne Rice is just blahblahblahblah sometimes.

One I finished but wish I didn't was The Husband by Dean Koontz. That was the only book I took back to the book store, ever. It was SO STUPID!!! I was mad too cuz I like DK and his Odd Thomas books rock.

I'm really trying to finish The Fiery Cross by Diana Gabaldon...I don't have much left but I started it a month ago :/

I can't stand Diana Gabaldon. I own the entire time travel series but I cannot, for the life of me, even stand another chapter.


My last unread book: A Game of Thrones by George R.R. Martin, and only because I don't want to get into it until he finishes the entire series.

My god, It felt like I was reading something by a kid. I know he was 15 at the time, but come on, even I usd more than just simple sentences at 15. It was a headache to read.

I plan on finishing "A Series of Unfortunate Events" /sometime/ just because I read the first 12 and I own a lot of them, but the author is so annoying. I just got kind of bored of the book and can't continue really. =/

Same with me! I thought the first book was great, but when you read the other books his style of writing gets really repetitive.

I also couldn't finish reading the Harry Potter series, "The Invisible Man", and Eragon. For some reason, they just got really boring and tedious that I just stopped reading.

omg, it was kind of the same for me.

I did, however, re-read it like a year later and I REALLY got into it `-`

I read like 10 pages out of Pride and Prejudice and died.
