So, with that out of the way: when we talk about a support character (like Nami – the new one!) we mean the first definition. Zyra, while able to play the support role, is not a support champion by these definitions – she’s more like a mage with an off-spec.

So, why should you care about Nami? Let me tell you!
  • She brings a combination of defensive utility (including a way to heal in combat situations!) and offensive “set-up”
  • She’s the water caster that you’ve anticipated for a long time – with a support leaning
  • She’s a regal mermaid – an archetype I think we can agree is a needed addition to the League lineup
  • Her offensive setup features a skillshot-style paradigm, something supports have only really had with Lulu; we wanted to expand a bit
  • While this is the concept art and the final has changed (as all concepts do through development), she’s drawn by the ridiculously talented Gem Lim
We’ve learned a lot of lessons from our supports, and think Nami shows how we can make a character who satisfies the core support psychology, and is healthy for the game. And with our commitment to developing a variety of champions, you’ll be seeing more supports coming next year – so this is far from the last example of that.

Look for more exact details, including skills and more art, in the upcoming days – and you will be able to check out Nami on the Public Beta Realm soon, too.

Judging by her ratios, looks like she'll be an even better AP mid than Janna and Lulu.

High CDs you say? np, she has insane utility on all her spells (+ her passive applying on all of them), and all 4 of them deal damage. Ultimate and Q also have decent ratios.

Her supportive side looks pretty broken, and they give her damage and decent ratios on all her skills ugh.

Look at those frills, how they unfold. How many wonders can one mermaid hold? Looking around here you think, sure, she's got everything. She's got flippers and scepters a plenty. She's got dashes and splashes galore. You want complementary curves? She's got twenty. But who cares, no big deal, she wants more.

She wants to be where the players are, she wants to see, wants to see them fighting, thinking inside of those, what do you call them? Oh, brains! Flipping to mid you don't get to far. Supports are required for healing, casting, strolling along on that.. what's that word again? Lane! Up where they toss, up where they stun, up where they lane all day in the sun, wandering free, wished she could be, part of that role.

What would she pay, if she could play, out of those waters? What sort of gift, would let her lift, up to the game? Betcha in the rift, they get the drift, that they appreciate their healers. Crowd controllers, supporting rollers, ready to sustain, and ready to help with Carry's job. Lock up the gankers and get some assists. What's a Baron, and how does it, what's the word? Buff! When's it enough? Wouldn't they love, love to play some support up above?

Out of the sea.

Wished she could be.

Nami Changes
Nami got a handful of her abilities renamed and tweaks to several of the coefficients. These name changes can be seen on her champion page but not on the in game tool tips.
  • Nami's Passive has been renamed to Surging Tides from Celerity
  • Nami's Q has been renamed to Aqua Prison from Hydro Blast
  • Nami's Q's AP Ratio has been reduced to .65 from .75
  • Nami's W has been renamed to Ebb and Flow from Surging Tides
  • Nami's W's heal has been increased by 10 at all ranks.
  • Nami's E has been renamed to Tidecaller's Blessing from Aqueous Empowerment.
  • Nami's R has had it's AP ratio reduced to .7 from .8.

Item Changes
Several items have been changed in the files and in practice, but that have NOT had their tooltips updated in game. For example, Madred's Razors now deal 10 bonus true damage to neutral monsters and you can see that when you attack a monster, but you wouldn't know that by looking at the tooltip.
Madred's Razors
  • chance to deal bonus damage increased to 25% from 20.
  • Now deals 10 true damage to monsters
Mercurial Scimitar
  • Attack damage lowered to 60 from 65
  • Bonus movement speed on active reduced to 50% from 100%
Spirit Stone
  • Now deals 10 true damage to monsters
Sword of the Divine
  • Attack Speed increased to 45% from 40%
  • Active cooldown increased to 60 seconds from 25 seconds.
  • Combine cost increased to 850 from 650
Wriggle's Lantern
  • Proc chance increased to 25% from 20%.

Arclight Varus Available for testing
The new Varus skin is now available for purchase and testing on the PBE. He still doesn't have any splash art but, on the champion info page, you can click to the right of Blight Crystal Varus and unlock him.

Bewitching Nidalee Particles
They worked out a few kinks with the Nidalee visual update, including some new particles for Betwitching Nidalee. Enjoy the bats.

New Scoreboard look
Scoreboard got a make over to make it fit with the new UI. It's awesome looking but I couldn't find an opacity option...


New Blue, Red, and Baron Buffs particles
A new set of particles for the various neutral monster buffs snuck their way into this patch. The buffs now "tier" in on themselves and don't overlap.

Hecarim with blue and red. Fid with Baron, Kog with Baron, WW with Baron and Blue.

New Font
New font is present but it looks like it's for the Greek localization. Probably won't stick around.

New HUD Animations
Unless I straight up missed this last patch, there are now some animated, spinning blue crystals around your HP/Mana bars you can activate through the Video option tab.

Hecarim
  • Base attack damage increased to 56 from 53.
Nautilus
  • Titan's Wrath's ( W ) shield has been increased to 100/150/200/250/300 from 80/130/180/230/280
Rammus
  • Base armor has been increased to 21 from 17
  • Base Health regen increased to 7 from 5.
Sejuani
  • Northern Winds ( W ) duration has been increased to 6 seconds from 5.
  • Base armor increased to 20.5 from 17.5
Item Changes
Balance Changes
Black Cleaver
  • Armor penetration increased to 15 from 10.
Bloodthirster
  • Combine cost reduced to 650 from 1000.
Brutilizer
  • Armor pen increased to 15 from 10.
Spirit of the Ancient Golem

The newest support champion to join the League is Nami, the Tidecaller. A water caster who channels the primal energies of the ocean, Nami harnesses water’s restorative properties and commands the raw power of the tides themselves.



Abilities:

  • Surging Tides (Passive): Allied champions affected by Nami’s abilities have their movement speeds increased for a short duration.
  • Aqua Prison: Nami sends a bubble of water into the air to a targeted location that deals magic damage and displaces enemies hit by the bubble.
  • Ebb and Flow: Unleashes a surge of water that can target an enemy or allied champion. The water can bounce from champion to champion and deals magic damage to enemy champions and heals allied champions.
  • Tidecaller’s Blessing: Nami buffs an allied champion, adding extra magic damage and a slow to their attacks.
  • Tidal Wave: Nami summons a massive Tidal Wave from her position. The wave deals magic damage and slows all enemy units it passes through. Enemies closest to the initial spawn point are slowed for a shorter duration than those farther away, but all are slowed for a significant length of time and Tidal Wave has a large range.

As a support with powerful crowd control abilities, Nami’s kit gives her the potential to impact every phase of your games. In lane, Nami excels at applying constant pressure to the enemy. The buffs provided by Tidecaller’s Blessing allow her lane partner to come out ahead in exchanges, and the long-distance stun from Aqua Prison can keep low health enemies from engaging safely. Moreover, because her healing skill also bounces to damage nearby enemies, Nami’s core support abilities work best when her partner is on the attack.

In the mid game, when teamfights become more frequent, the utility of Ebb and Flow increases. The more champions the wave can bounce to, the more efficient it becomes. You can use Aqua Prison and Tidal Wave to disrupt opponents’ positioning with stuns and slows, and take advantage of her passive combined with Tidecaller’s Blessing to help chase down a fleeing enemy champion.

With her potent combination of crowd control and buffs, Nami continues to have a substantial presence in team fights once the transition is made to the late game. Even though she’s not on the front lines dishing out damage, Nami becomes a fantastic initiator through the range of her ultimate. The enormous distance covered by the rushing Tidal Wave can easily force a teamfight, or allow her team to disengage while their opponents are slowed under the weight of the tide.



Balancing her offensive capabilities and defensive utility will be crucial to success with Nami. Learn to ride the rolling wave, and you may find your team swimming to victory.

Eternum Nocturne
Riot sure didn't waste any time getting the recently announced legendary Nocturne skin on to the PBE. Eternum Nocturne is now available for testing and comes complete with everything you would expect a legendary skin to have: all new particles, animations, sounds, and a new voice over..

Here is a skin spotlight, showing off this fancy new skin in action.

Arclight Varus
Arclight Varus finally got his splash art added

New particles on CV
This isn't really new, but I did miss it in the earlier PBE patches so I figured I would mention it now; take a peep at the new particles for Clairvoyance.

Balance Changes
A few more Nami and item tweaks made it into this iteration.
Champions
Nami
  • Aqua Prison now states it "stuns enemies" instead of "lifting them into the air...". Spell is the same, just worded different.
  • Ebb and Flow healing increased to 75/105/135/165/195 from 60/90/120/150/180
    Ebb and Flow damage increased to 65/105/145/185/225 from 50/90/130/170/210
  • Ebb and Flow's damage and healing value is now decreased by 15% everytime it jumps.
Items
Enchantment: Homeguard
  • You now lose the regenerative / move speed effects if you enter combat.
Sword of the Divine
  • It now only gets it's cooldown reduced on champion kills instead of kills and assists.
  • Activate duration has been reduced to 3 seconds from 4 seconds.
Wriggles Lantern
  • Bonus damage increased to 500 from 450

New Splash Arts
While we still don't have any Nidalee or Nami splash arts, this patch treated us to brand new default splashes for both Brand and Mordekaiser.
Brand

Mordekaiser
Jack of Hearts Twisted Fate's splash art got a small alteration, changing the spade on the top of his hat into a heart. Other than that, it remains the same splash art as live.

Eternum Nocturne Particles
This upcoming legendary skin got some additional particles added on to his ultimate. He now has a swirling little black hole-y particle before he jumps.


UI Changes
The scoreboard now has color indicators to better separate teams and is slightly transparent.

Mastery Changes
There was also a slight change to the new masteries in this patch as Vampirism and and Strength of Spirit have switched places. Not sure if this is intentional as the icons have not changed.


Balance Changes
As expected, a few more balance changes were present in this patch.

Champions:
Nami
Aqua Prison
  • Mana cost decreased to 60 at all ranks from 65.
Ebb and Flow
  • Heal reduced to 65/95/125/155/185 from 75/105/135/165/195
  • Damage increased to 70/110/150/190/230 from 65/105/145/185/225
  • Mana cost increased to 70/85/100/115/130 from 60/75/90/105/120
Tidal Wave
  • Range increased to 2800 from 2550
Items:
Avarice Blade
  • Passive Gold reduced to 2 gold per 10 seconds down from 4 gold.

Mercurial Scimitar
  • It's activate now only grants bonus movement speed if the owner is a melee champion.
Nidalee Model's reverted
Tucking this down here because I'm not sure if it was an error, some sort of delay, or a response to community dissatisfaction , but Nidalee's models have been reverted from her visual update models to her normal, triangle feet models. I assume this is only temporary and her new models will make a return shortly.

Perhaps more interesting than the sale is the time frames for the 1.73 patch, which reveal that the current PBE patch (1.72) is planned for release sometime very soon..

Pantheon's champion portrait has been adjusted to a straight clip from his splash art instead of the orange background it had before. Sort of a weird change but it makes sense...

A few more balance tweaks made it into this patch, specially for Nami's tidal wave.

Tweaks to new Master Yi portrait
Master Yi's brand new champion portriat got slightly tweaked in this patch, focusing it in a little bit more and turning up the green.

Holiday Images for Store
Looks like Riot is prepping for the upcoming holiday season, they snuck in some new wintery images to decorate the shop with.

New Summoner Icons
Two new Summoner Icons popped up in this update, although it is unclear what they are for. It's totally possible they could be exclusive to the SEA/Chinese servers, similar to the Chibi champion portraits present in the files.

Slight Utility Tree Change
If you remember a PBE patch or so ago, Vampirism and Strength of Spirit flipped places in the utility tree. That change is still present but Expanded Mind is NO LONGER connected to Vampirism, as when the two masteries switched places it was still connected.
