Accused League of Legends Cheat Fined $30,000

Quote:

Amidst the technical issues plaguing League of Legends' World Playoffs, there also emerged accusations that some of the contestants had essentially "cheated", by using the venue's monitors (there to show the game to the large crowd) to check in on the activity of their rival players.

After an investigation by developers Riot Games, a number of contestants were found to have engaged in "unsportsmanlike conduct" and were issued strict warnings against future violations. This was mainly due to the fact that, while they were caught looking at the screens, they hadn't actually gotten a competitive advantage from doing so.

One player in particular, though - Woong, from Azubu Frost - was after review found to have gained a clear advantage in his team's quarter-final by looking at the big screens, and as a result has been fined $30,000, which is his cut of AzF's prizemoney for reaching the tournament's semi-finals.

Riot also found that Woong's teammates "modified their gameplay based upon the information" he gained by looking at the screen.

That'll be of little consolation to TSM, the team he defeated, but since members of that team were found to have looked at the screens as well, they can't complain too much.

In relation to why the quarter-final isn't being replayed, or why there were no team disqualifications, Riot claim that AzF's cheating, while a violation of the rules in of itself, did not decide the winner of the game.

It's really sad that a competitive player rises from the Bottom to the Top then cheats at the end.

that 1 little thing wouldnt have mattered, they completely crushed TSM

You'd think they'd know not to put the screen within viewing distance of the players. That seems like common sense.

League is about snowballing. You don't know what that first blood would've done for TSM in that game. To be honest it could've changed everything you just don't/can't know that.

but they got slaughtered the 2nd game, so even if they lost the first, they'd still lose

They should have been kicked out if you ask me.

i dont think TSM could have beat them anyway but thats to soft of a punishment for cheating in such a big tourny and it doesnt feel right to let cheaters continue no matter how small it was, should have been disqualified.

I'm confused. The second game is actually when TSM started quite strong and basically just messed up. If that first blood in the first game would've somehow let TSM snowball and win, then the series is 1-1 going to a game 3. You can't legitimately say that you know that frost would've crushed them.

Example: Taipei beat M5 last night. lol that isnt supposed to happen. I mean I'm really no TSM fanboy or anything, but I do know that certain things can't be set in stone at that level. Honestly, unless frost wins which they can, they crucify you in Korea for cheating. Frost could be screwed either way.

Still doesn't justify the cheating.

is it what i think its saying? or am i wrong?

TSM looked at the screen too but their game got restarted if I remember correctly. Obviously they're in the wrong too but they didn't get a big game advantage from it.

The reason Dyrus looked at the screen in the first place was to check if he could even see the screen from his position, to confirm Chaox's accusation. However it was ignored but then confirmed. Still Frost outplayed TSM, but who knows, the Bo3 could've been completely different.

No one could know the outcome in a "normal" match now, but I agree with the 2nd part. If someone cheats they should be disqualified...not allowed to continue on to get a bigger cash prize (even though his 20% is already being taken no matter what he wins :py44: )

Riot is pretty much saying it's ok to cheat with this decision...
