Oh, another thing is, champion matchups. Since I'm always hanging around bot lane, the only champs I get to face are carries, supports, junglers, and the occasional stupid AP/AD char.

I played as Lux mid today and got owned by Akali mid. My friends suggested that I bind her as soon as I see her going for me, which helped, but by that time, she was level 6, and I could only bind her down for so long before she got me with that dash. So in that sort of situation, should I have asked for a lane swap (we could have done that with our team comp that game) or tried my best to stay out of her range while still farming with E?

I would have. Lux is too fragile and Akali has insane burst and kill power with 3 charges. If you know you can't do well in your lane, you should always ask for a lane switch if your ally can handle your lane and you think the new lane is a bit better.

op champions doesn't mean they cannot be beat in lane.. its far from that

a 2k can probably easily beat an ap annie mid with ad annie. or ad ahri vs ap ahri

just look at current top players or season 1/pre season statistics, a lot used to specialized in just one/few champions

hotshot on nid, westrice on akali, dyrus on jax/singed etc. Were those champions op? All of them certainly got nerfed, yet they were all beatable in lane . Even if a champion is op, there can still be counter picks to beat you in lane even given two ppl are of similar skill level. OP =/= godlike

and i am still saying this, its how i got better. by witnessing good players and learning from them

when playing versus melee assasins try to harras them all day, he/she must not touch those creeps and abuse range, reason y i could deal akalis when she was considered "op" with my lovely brand =)
and don't worry if ur getting raped by an assassin, c'mon ur a mage, a squishy caster

on the how to improve... watch tourneys i guess, and dw u'll improve with time

how did you get owned by akali when ur a ranged hero? usually for me every ranged hero i can counter and harass like mad to akali and making her going back to base more often and they had to make frequent ganks so their jungler is underfarmed mid game. and here, have fun and laugh at this League of legends -Learn how to play Garen in 15 sec EP01 15秒教*玩盖伦 - YouTube

aside from the humour, i think this guide for 15 secs is a good idea of how some characters works best, but u might hv difference playing styles, like how most ppl use garen on bushes, i don rly need to and still own in a lane top soloing.

There's only so much harass you can dish out as Lux due to her insane mana costs, and since Akali has sustain she can pretty much negate that harass.
Any half decent Akali would play safe before Lvl 6, and if there's a chance for her to jump on you and kill you in a second (Lux will die that fast) then she will take it.

@Raine:
Just try to stay out of Akali's R range when farming (don't worry about using E to farm), and if Akali is outsustaining your harass, then either, wait for your jungler to help out (hopefully they have some sort of CC), or just look for chances to snipe people on other lanes for possible kills or assists.

Try to give her a hard time before Lvl 6 at least though.

u do not necessary need to use skills to harass, i mean i can use malz for mid and harass well without even using a skill unless ur jungler comes to gank.

Have no idea why you would even dare to get into auto attack range with Lux vs Akali.
Btw, Malz counters Akali so hard, if she tries to attack then you can easily drop a W/R on her.

i don see why not, its not like im telling you to hit akali when the enemy creeps aren't even half clear, and if u be doing daring stuff, most ppl would take pre caution and stand back a little thinking it would be your jungler ganking, and if they don't, free food.

Then it's not an OP champion and you should stop using that term.

And here's what I'm saying now.
How you learned is one thing.
How RaineScarlet learns is another, and we know now that RaineScarlet does not learn like you do. At all.

Akali level 6, gapcloser.
Akali can farm using her ranged Q.

Akali R range - 800
Lux AA range - 550

You are definitely NOT going to be using autoattacks to harass after level 6.

Not really sure why Akali, who can kill Lux without a full combo (Lvl 6+ obviously), should be scared of a few auto attacks, especially when she also has her own sustain.

I've played lux vs akali on several occasions and it all comes down to what you do before level 6, if you harrass her enough then you'll hit 6 before her and boom akali from a safe distance.

Also using your passive before she hits level 6 is a must.

Indeed, the key to laning vs Akali is to give her a hard time pre-6.

Yay, thanks again. I think I just need to practice more. I can pretty much face any bot lane champ, but I don't venture outside that lane much, so I get stomped pretty hard when I face someone I don't usually play against.

Edit: Well, in that particular game, our jungler was being stupid and pulled off absolutely no pre6 ganks on anyone (Trynderpmere), while I got ganked twice by their Nautilus. Got away the first time thanks to my own ward, but gave first blood the second time because he flashed in under turret with Ulti, and he and Akali finished me off. The turret did give me the kill on Akali, but still. /sadface

Well firstly, yes that jungler wasn't very good if he wasn't going to gank pre-6 akali or trynd, but you shouldn't really place the blame on them, ganking from jungle is like doing a favour, they don't necessarily have to do it.

Secondly, I don't really blame you for losing to Akali when Nautilus ganks mid, his ganks are really strong as he can either:

Grab you + CC you
CC you, then grab you (that ulti range and CC power is ridiculous lol)
Shut off an escape path, giving you no choice but to move at angles, allowing the mid carry to catch up.

One week later!

Well I tried playing some bot games with Ahri, Caitlyn, and Ashe. All I can say is, I was right, bots are stupid, and also stupefy my playing style.

I'm actually a little scared to solo q my Ahri/Cait though, but I think I will have to do that eventually. I think it's bad that I always have a steady group to play with. >< *always gets carried*

Just do what I did for ranked.
Just do it. Half the time, it's a lot better than what I find people make it out to be.

Also I like bot games.
Because every time there is a Malphite and Karthus Bot, I fear for my life more than Annie Bot. Malphite Bot is an especial *******.
