There are two types of Bard and contrary to what you may think BOTH work in the support role, it's just the way they work that's different. If you're just Evil Sound bard you can support provided you kb enemies.

Extra point distribution,
  • Magic Detection (1sp/level, lv10 max) [pre-requisite]
  • Potential of elements (3sp/level, lv3 max)
    Adds a nice 1% magic crit rate every level.
  • Sonic Protection (2sp/level, lv10 max)
    Kinda crappy lv req. and duration (40s with 45s cooldown at lv10) but 100 dmg deduction can add up to a lot.

Equip Notes

Solo (evil sound)

Magic and magic and more magic. After that get water and and just about anything that will increase damage. Crit damage is good though generally if you crit you will knock-back anyway so thats not so important. What is important is that you get as much damage in so you knock back; everything else just doesn't matter if you're using Evil Sound

Support

Not much to say. Magic Accuracy, Magic Critical RATE, Magic Stat, Defense, Stamina Stat, Magic Critical Damage, Physical Evasion and Max Magic/Water Damage are what is required. You can also get Min Magic/Water Damage but try to keep that as a low priority since it does little else but waste dura and make your damage average. That said, what you need is very situational in most cases. For accessories you need Ely gain, Stamina, Magic and Hp.

Remember since you're the healer, just like in every other game DONT DIE!

Skills for bards

I've reset countless times and here's the breakdown on some of the stranger skills on bard.

Recovery Sound is a fancy heal over time song (you have to be playing it). Its basically evil sound only it heals. You can get 1 level in it for cutsy stuff but otherwise don't waste points! Its completely not worth it. You may save SP but after 95 (if even that) your team mates will be dead if you rely on it.

Offense sound, same thing. You play, teammates attk goes up. I've tested, don't see it making a difference. Can only imagine its one of those useless fixed spells.

Holy Sound, gives nice defense boost. Very nice defense boost. Get it, but after you get your other skills, such as song of spirit and song heart.

Sound of Water Element, waste of sp to cast, waste of skill points to get. It adds maybe 1-5 water. Compared to what your stone gives you its worthless.

Sonic Protection, its interesting. But... useless. Hard to cast, very weak effect (as levels go up so does its effect get worse, since its fixed). It also has very short duration, like only 40s.

Elemental Cry, maybe but too situational. Its basically a anti-magic buff, but magic mobs are already so damn strong you don't want to go near so... not a lot of help. If you need magic buffs get magic resistence food, or enchant magic resistence.

Devil Voice, basically a buff that does damage. Very very very little damage. Can't say for sure if its fixed or not, but basically you have to cast it for god knows how many times to kill even the most weak mobs.

Hearing Confusion, doesn't seem to work, unless there's some trick/function to it. Regrettably it de-buffs only a few mobs at a time, and you have to be danger close, so you're better off not getting it.

Mind square, if you never got it, is good; just that as bard if you get element flow you don't ever need it.

On the crit tree in Misc don't go past the crit skills! The ones after are junk! The do things like increase your water attribute by 1 and such. Or heal you for some puny amount (for god sake just use Group Heal, or some other heal)

(never went healing route in misc, so no comment on those)


Water only bards

You could as Bard use just Water magic (I've tried it, it's crazy, but works), and given the special water guitar and various buffs you would technically be very good at it, but Evil Sound is just better. A small problem you will also have is: unlike Sorc where you could use a magic dagger and a shield on bard you can only use either guitar or just shield. And bard magic requires guitar so if you want to use bard heals you have to tab to the guitars, its... not pleasant.

11 days (we had nothing that buffed exp), I managed to get 11th place on the race to 80 event (page 4 bottom). It can be done in less, even with no exp buffs.

A lot of people won't like my way of leveling, but there you go. Basic rule is just stay in duo up to 40s and then trio up 60 and you're good.

Mind square is pretty useless imo, unless you happen to sit a LOT while grinding or something.

The increase of regeneration or whatever only happens when you sit.

I don't see the point of sonic protection or a sonic/mind square hybrid (btw, thats a total of 15 points, 10 for sonic protection and 5 for mind square for both to be level 5). That only decreases damage taken by 50. Everything past level 80 does around 150~500+ damage on you per few seconds (and in mobs). It's just easier to spam heal it back (yes, it does add up but why waste 10~20 skill points on that?).
I suppose you can get it if you have extra points because of not getting water masteries/skills/ele flow or something. Either way don't bother with it until you have extra points.

I maxed the following for my bard:
Magic Upgrade (10)
3 in Evil Sound (9 points)
All 3 self healing and all 3 party healing skills (8 points)
Sound of Heart and Sound of Spirit (20 well spent points)
Bubble Bubble, Ice Fear, Ice Storm, 1 in Hail Storm and 1 in Bubble Bubble II (13 points)
Maxed the first two masteries and put 1 in the final mastery (16)

Doing this allows me to support my friends with two buffs and decent healing. I can also PVP and grind efficiently in fast paced parties thanks to the water skills. The only problem is picking which branch to go down for your misc skills, since they're all decent... You can buff up your healing, you can buff up your critical efficient or you can get elemental flow to help with potless training (this takes 50 points to get)

The following is just my notes so I don't have to calculate points each time I level. I have got a few levels of Elemental flow, the so called "most useful misc skill eva~", and its honestly useless; the amount of nonsense you have to get to even access it is not worth it unless you plan on solo grinding the rest of your life. To put it simply its only good from lv95 when you kinda finish it up to 110 maybe; this is soloing. If you choose to get it, your healing, dmg, pvp and any party potential etc will all hit rock bottom since the stupid thing wastes around 50 points in useless skills (that's 50 levels worth of points!).





Is it really that bad?=.=

If you don't plan on getting higher eva stats, go the critical branch - or don't pick a branch at all and just do magic upgrade. This way, you can focus on buffs.

I (and a lot out there) hate it because its a) fixed not % b) costs 20sp to max, and is only really good maxed

It can be good if you party with other bards really and at high levels while the hp regen it provides is more and more useless it does still give enough sp regeneration so you don't have to use much if any sp pots.

Matter of preference, people say its hax on big mobs, but only case I know is at Corals where it was wtfhax; up to burgers it was decent after that it was umm meh.

As for the guide, its a lil' old should change a few things since I failed a few parts there.

I did the same thing :O I read some of Sandrie's bard guide then I decide my skills, the one you came up was the same xD
