Default N> Fiction Novel to Read

ENGL 2342 Intro to Fiction

i thought about doing one of the Twilight series (Stephanie Meyer) but figured i could enjoy reading a new book.
then i decided to buy Norweigan Wood (Haruki Murakami) but after a few pages i got the a smex scene. then skimmed the book and found another. and another. and another. [never take recommendations from pervy guys.. no matter how intelligent they are.. but it is a good book] so i just cant do my final paper on a book with a lot of sex scenes.

so anybody have any recommendations?
my sister's friend recommended a book by Chuck Palahniuk and i thought about Choke (its coming to the big screen.) but the trailers is leading me to believe there's just as much sex in it as Norwegian Wood.

something.. entertaining. i like the books that i find hard to put down. (i've ended up sleeping at 5AM because of Edward Cullen... and the harry potter series)
i like romance but please no detailed sex scenes / comedic / "deep" / and muku doesnt like me listening to emo music cause he thinks it changes my mood.. so i doubt an emo book would be different.

i dont think i want to do it on any science fiction stories. just close to reality fiction. (less vampires and werewolves type of thing)
unless there's another Edward Cullen out there...

Im more into the fantasy/sci-fi type books, so Iunno if I could really give any recommendations .__. lol.

Looking at the random stack of books on the shelf behind my computer, the only thing I had that wasnt Warcraft/Starcraft/Anne Rice/Random Vampire smut novels was one called Dinosaur Canyon lolz.

However, if you did happen to give fantasy a try, I'd highly recommend the Temeraire series by Naomi Novik, His Majesty's Dragon/Throne of Jade/Black Powder War/Empire of Ivory. Its sort of Napoleonic times with dragons? Or E.E. Knight's Age of Fire series.

But if you prefer to stick more to reality, then I cant help you out xD

I have a book I started but got water damage cus of my Mom...

it's pretty neat I got to the 2nd book in a week, the WHOLE book its self is 929 pages long.

Philip Pullman
His Dark Materials.

Thats the book the movie the Golden Compass came from

Other then that I'd probably say..
From a Buick 8
Stephen King.

Its not all that Horror-ish but pretty laid back.
-Looks through her bookcase.-
Mew

Mostly all I have are Stephen King books or Ann Rice ._.

Seconding the His Dark Materials series. The books are, in order:

The Golden Compass/The Northern Lights (depending on where you live)
The Subtle Knife
The Amber Spyglass

Great books.

Alternately, the Young Wizards books by Diane Duane (starting with 'So You Want to Be a Wizard') are great YA fiction, but they might be a little...I dunno, 'young' for you. I read them and enjoyed them, though.

A Handmaid's Tale by Margret Atwood - a post-apocalyptic (?) neo-christain society through the eyes of a maid servant.

Gertrude and Claudius by John Updike - a prequel to Hamlet focusing on the relationship between the queen and her brother-husband, the uncle-father to Hamlet.

The Red Tent by Anita Diament - Dinah's version of the biblical account in Genesis which led to the slaughter of all the men in a canaanite city.

i really like these books. the sex isn't anything distracting.

I can't stand the Twilight series. I feel like I lose brain cells just turning the pages. Heck, I know fanfic writers with more sophisticated writing styles and better imaginations.

I like Haruki Murakami, but I've never read Norwegian Wood. His other books (like Kafka on the Shore and Dance, Dance, Dance) doesn't even have sex in it; I guess you landed one of his odder ones. The only thing consistent about him is the kaleidoscopic mindf*** and commercialism-rape.

My suggestions:
- Catch 22 (Joseph Heller) - one of the best books I've read in my life
- Veronica Decides to Die (Paulo Coelho)
- The Virgin Suicides (Jeffrey Eugenides)

If you're not into those contemporary pseudo-intellectual types, here's lighter reading in the fantasy genre:
- A Game of Thrones (George RR Martin) which IMO is better than LOTR
- The Abhorsen Trilogy (Garth Nix) for the fantasy-young adult genre
- The Dark Tower (Stephen King) - twisted alternate universe wild west; pretty fascinating

And my favorite book of all time, which I used in my high school book report: Les Miserables (Victor Hugo)

...and I had to skip a most of titles on my bookshelf because they either are "deep" or includes sex. :U

YES! YES! YES! I love this series so much, I'm a bigtime fanboy. 8D Also, don't forget the latest book in the series, Victory of Eagles. I highly recommend it.

Hum, I'll just recommend a few.

The Alchemist : Paulo Coelho
Eleven Minutes : Paulo Coelho (this one has a few S scenes and is a bit graphic at some points, but it doesn't overdo it, then again, the whole book is about a prostitute)
Hearts in Atlantis : Stephen King

Also, if you like books like Harry Potter, you might like Eragon, Eldest, and Brisingr (in order from begining of storyline to end) all by Christopher Paolini. I haven't read Brisingr, but I find the other two to be quite nice.

Never Let Me Go - Kazuo Ishiguro
After Dark - Haruki Murakami
Kafka on the Shore - Haruki Murakami
Dance, Dance, Dance - Haruki Murakami

the first two are my candidates for my class. and the last three are just because im loving Haruki Murakami
