Private Servers

We've been pretty lax on this - but some possible upcoming affiliations may be in jeopardy if we do not address it now.

Regarding private servers for any MMO discussed on MMOG:

Effective immediately, it is not allowed. Please remove all discussion regarding private servers, links, etc by October 1st. After this date, any discussion on private servers will receive infractions. On October 1st, anything that has not been deleted by the users will be deleted by staff.

I know this will upset some people, but the benefit to having legitimate affiliations far outweigh the hours I'm going to have to hear you all gripe at me.

Staff, please enforce this after October 1st - until then please kindly post warnings.

It kinda makes sense, since private servers shouldn't even exist.

Well... what about MyRO? ._.

NoeJeko 09-18-2008 02:36 PM

We can't make exceptions for some games and disallow others. Sorry, but this applies to all private server discussion.

CountBlood 09-18-2008 02:49 PM

...Eh.... oh well I don't come here for private server related information anyway

You can probably talk about it in IRC or something. o.o (will pserver discussion be allowed on IRC?)

NoeJeko 09-18-2008 02:54 PM

Not in the official #mymmogames channel. If discussions happen in other channels, the staff here has no control over that.

Ascherit 09-18-2008 02:57 PM

Hmm, ok.

I remember that there was an IRC channel for MyRO...

or did I get that confused with Ikariam...

Levin 09-18-2008 02:58 PM

It makes sense, especially politically. The mortal enemy of MMO's would be private servers.

Guess if you want to talk about PServers you should discuss about making a new unofficial channel or something then...

Privately own messaging servers (IRC, vent, messaging program, etc.) not under MOG's official management won't have any say/rule against its distribution and discussion. Everything else is controlled.

Doesn't this more or less spell the end of the RO2 forums until official? @_@

Zegridathes 09-18-2008 03:35 PM

Talking about the games themselves is separate from talking specifically about or referencing PS's.

Zyklon▀ 09-18-2008 04:18 PM

Im guessing almost 9/10 of the maplestory board topics will be deleted

Levin 09-18-2008 05:33 PM

You mean most of RO2 ._.

MsSquid 09-18-2008 05:34 PM

There goes MyRO, RO2, and Maple Story :U

NoeJeko 09-18-2008 08:39 PM

I knew there would be QQ'ing about it, but the decision is made and it's in the best interest of MMOG.

Tenelax 09-19-2008 04:43 AM

How about deleting the RO2 forum till it come out? Since it was already dead... Now it will be dead AND half deleted lol...

Miyuki 09-19-2008 04:48 AM

Why delete? People still can ask questions regarding RO there :) [I mean questions regarding RO, not private servers]

Catharsis 09-19-2008 04:48 AM

RO2 private server threads were closed. o_o

Kannan08 10-10-2008 10:28 AM

really there are bad and good things to pvt servers

first they give people a chance to quickly adapt to the gameplays its eaier to lvl and obtain items
a chance to fully explore the game and obstain knwledge and hack
the bad thing is its a compyright infrigement and oonce pvt players come on to the really thing they often fail or give up,
