Apologies if you were about to eat. Or open a computer. Or touch a computer. Or go to sleep. Ever.

Reddit user mistermustard posted these shots yesterday, saying "I don't think I'm going to fix computers anymore". Fair enough, man. Fair enough.

This makes me want to take care of my computer even more.
And it makes me wonder how in the world could that happen.

Light 10-17-2013 09:29 PM

Seeing this makes me wonder about the poor condition of the house itself.
With all the systems I've worked with, the greatest pest was simply dust bunnies.

Griever 10-17-2013 09:55 PM

This is why laptop

Pshfrk 10-18-2013 09:24 AM

How and why did they die so young, though ? o:

Light 10-18-2013 10:25 AM

Great... I'm building a new PC and it has an ASUS board. Well shit.
Fortunately it's not cockroach infested yet.

Pshfrk 10-18-2013 07:37 PM

From personal experience, spiders like my ASUS board more than kokos <o< ( well, liked . SINCE IT'S DEAD NOW )

Maybe yours will charm mice o:

Light 10-18-2013 08:22 PM

Well they'd have close access to water, so maybe.

james 10-18-2013 09:57 PM

I thought cockroaches never died. e-e

It would be a nightmare for me if they don't...or didn't. :py22:

Luckily my only problem is dust...and mosquito I guess, but they're not attracted to my computer thank goodness...the mosquito I mean.

I already start feeling bad if I don't do any maintenance at least once a year but this right here gets the crown!

Sayde 10-25-2013 02:22 AM

Oh my god. That's just foul. Ugh

Sanichi 10-25-2013 04:16 PM

That doesn't seem that bad to me.

Sayde 10-30-2013 12:57 AM

What would count as bad for you...?

Loreli 10-30-2013 10:32 AM

Dead baby parts clogging up the fan.

I work in an IT you'd be surprised how many computers malfunction because bugs get stuck in side. Nothing like the photos but bugs do make their way into laptops too.

twinblade 11-04-2013 06:13 PM

I guess this is sort of a motivation for a regular maintenance...if only cleaning it is less tedious on my end since my PC is placed on our small living room. It's quite tedious to move all the stuff around to make space for the CPU then remove all the cables and plugs etc...
But seeing this I really think it is worth the effort.

It's why having a good case makes a world of difference, as well as modular cabling.

Wires are to hide in the back panel so you can more easily clean the system and also promotes greater airflow. Having positive air pressure also reduces dust buildup which bugs would love to get into.

This system is old so it doesn't have that level of organization, but it makes a world of difference.
I've only needed to clean my system once a year, and the dust level isn't half as bad as cluttered systems which are a complete bitch to clean. Doesn't hurt to buy cheap fan filters either.

I always keep my PC well ventilated and compared to my old PC it collects a lot less dust. It's so less dust it's too dangerous to clean it too much I think. I don't know much about the PC stuff but my new PC does have a fan on the side of its case...
