Default Cancelling Cable TV?

(If I can be nosey) I was wondering if anyone on here has cancelled their Cable TV and switched to just subscribing to Netflix/Hulu+/etc. (Also looking for an anime subscription! Dubbed stuff mainly...)

Our Comcast contract just expired and our bill just shot through the roof so we're looking for cheaper deals again...

If we did get rid of cable would we still be able to get the basic NBC/ABC/CBS like you could on analog TV before they switched everything to digital? Or do you have to have something for that now?

If your TV does not have a digital receiver (all TVs built after a certain date had to have it, possible Jan 1, 2008?), then you will need a digital receiver box. They used to be about $40.

I don't really think cable TV is a must these days if you don't have to watch shows immediately after they air. If you're willing to wait, Netflix/Amazon Prime is a better deal than Hulu+. Of course, HBO shows aren't on those platforms. I just typically rent a copy from the library after the DVD/Blu-rays come out and watch the entire previous season in a week.

Hulu+ and Netflix are 8 bucks a month. Even if you subscribe to both, it's still considerably cheaper than Cable TV. I haven't canceled mine yet though, since it's bundled with internet. Time Warner recently gave us promotions and stuff again. Every time you call and cancel, they always give you special discounts to "reconsider."

And no, you won't be able to watch those channels without a digital box.

A lot of channels do internet streaming now. If you have Anrdroid TV and a high speed internet connection, normal cable is a joke now. HD PVRs cost an arm and a leg for on demand services that exist now online for less than a premium channel every month.

We're thinking about getting rid of the cable and phone, and just having the 50MB internet for $50 a month, then getting Hulu+ for TV shows and Netflix for movies. That would pretty much cut our bill from $140 down to right at $70 (or less if we can buy our own modem+router)

And this seems to be the best TV Antenna supposedly. Anyone used / heard of it before?

I never bothered with cable TV before... a good internet connection is a lot more important to me anyway.

We still have cable, but we don't get to utilize it much since we only watch a few channels. It gives better reception too compared to a non-cable TV (obviously) and we have a different purpose for our PC.
