The next Super Smash Bros. fight game will be released on both Nintendo 3DS and the newly-announced Wii successor the Wii U, Nintendo president Satoru Iwata explained during the company's E3 press briefing. Series designer Masahiro Sakurai is once again onboard.
"A few months ago I explained the concept of Wii to Mister Sakurai, who was developing [Kid Icarus: Uprising]," Iwata said. "We were discussing which platforms his next game should be developed for--Nintendo 3DS or Wee U? What Mister Sakurai suggested then was an idea to make Smash Bros. for both Nintendo 3DS and Wee U, to make it work together on both platforms.
"Since his team is still involved in the final work for Kid Icarus maybe I shouldn't go into any detail today, but I think I have just promised you that Smash Bros. will be developed for Nintendo 3DS and for Wee U, and that the software will work together in some fashion."
Looking for slightly faster gameplay this time around. And a adventure mode that actually uses real Nintendo locations like Melee did. (and uses stamina instead of a psuedo screen-lock on attacks)
Only things that need to happen is bring back hitstun, and nerf directional influence. Tripping was a minor issue. DI being so strong is what made it so easy to recover from offscreen and ruined competitive edgeguarding. It also made combo nonexistant.
Don't really see how Nintendo can make a Smash game even bigger than Brawl.
Brawl was nowhere near all-encompassing. They removed a lot of Melee features too, like orchestrated themes, Break the Targets stages unique to each character, etc.
I hope the change doesn't break the game, this console-to-handheld linking system is always either a hit or a miss so he really is walking on egg shells right now.
But in all honesty... a roster of 60+ characters would make those egg shells a lot tougher to crack (;
My choice for who I want as a new addition in ssb4 is quite obvious, I think. Make it happen Nintendo, I want to warp around the field in a display of flashy diamonds!
It's going to be a while before I feel like tossing money at the screen though. Nothing that really piques my interest on 3ds yet, so I don't have that, and I don't want to get wii u just for one game, either.
