With the size of games ever increasing, suddenly the economy of including a standard DVD drive does not seem so wise. Much disc-swapping appears to be on the horizon…

I read the comments, and I can't believe that there are people who actually think that constant disc-swapping is much better than a one-time, 10 to 20 minute installation. o_O;

I mean, look at Star Ocean 4. You had to change discs whenever you wanted to revisit an older area. I think I would rather take a one-time installation over disc-changing.

It isn't exactly as the picture shows (its so you can get a idea). However, if everything is compressed, expect probably 4-5 discs for the 360 version? (which might... have some issues possibly) With a high price attached of course.

We're not talking 3 disks here, we're talking...a lot. If that (2 hour?) demo was 5GB, god knows how big the real game will be. Demos are what, 5% of the whole game? Even if they compress it (I don't know why they wouldn't compress the demo disk...), unless they can compress it by 80%, there's just too many disks...

Plus, you may have to switch discs if you want to re-visit older areas, and those who have played SO4 definitely know how annoying that can get. XD

Well one would hope they don't make it like Metal Gear Solid 4 where you had you reinstall in order to play a different act. Otherwise we might just be seeing numerous install screens for the PS3 just for a smaller installation overall.
Would want a 30GB install on a 40GB system now do we.

Great, Square always being the one (and most bloated) dev to push the storage space on game systems... I guess Square never gave up from directing a movie with ever expansive FMV scenes on each game along the series. Blu-ray discs? Square wants 1 TB SSD card please =.=

On a side note, X360 can use dual layer DVD, though usable space is around 6-6.5 gigs.

It would so cool if they made FFXIII the first console game ever to be so big they had to place it on a portable drive. (That would be WAYYYY smarter)
