Following speculation surrounding job advertisements on Blizzard's website, a community administrator has confirmed on the World of Warcraft forums that the developer is currently at work on an unannounced, next-gen MMO.
The job postings displayed are seeking lead character and environment 3D artists for the unspecified project, which has an icon reading "Top Secret!" displayed alongside the posting where the logo for the appropriate game property would normally be.
The community administrator addressed the speculation on the forums succinctly, but said, "No, it is an unannounced Next-Gen MMO. And that doesn't mean an expansion for World of Warcraft either.
Earlier this year, Blizzard founding member and senior vice president of product development Frank Pearce told Gamasutra that the company had created a workforce titled "Team 3," comprised of about 40 members separate from the Starcraft and Warcraft teams.
Pearce declined to give any details on what the team might be working on, only saying that "Team 3 is working on something really awesome. I can’t give you any hints, but it’s totally awesome."
Something that won't be out anytime soon, but sure is going to be hawt~
According to reports, in addition to WoW:WotLK, Diablo 3 and Starcraft 2, there is another project Blizzard is hiring and working on. Also, this project is defenately a next-gen MMO NOT related to Warcraft.
I think the folks at our company are concerned, if they’re going to do a new franchise, that it be worthy – and that it be something that is equivalent or better than what we’ve done before, because they don’t want to do a franchise that’s not.
These are three of the best-selling franchises of all time, and very well-loved. So you’ve got a pretty high bar of trying to figure out what those franchises might be.
What I will say, though, is that the idea of a new franchise is very intriguing to employees of the company. Are we ever going to release a new one? I would absolutely say we will at some point. I just don’t know when that day will be quite yet.
Will it be Diablocraft? Will it be something entirely new? Who knows?!
Wish I was done with college and had my degree probably could have tried to get hired D: Anyways, if it's none of the games we know about, I'll have to look into it. Are all "Next-Gen" games really next gen?
