so...did they just run out of ideas for games or something? SMT + Fire Emblem was never something i would've expected.

well, i won't judge before gameplay is uploaded though.

Don't see how they're running out of ideas. Nintendo has just taken an interest in making crossover games with other companies.
They already did a crossover before with Pokemon and Nobunaga's Ambition.

Oh, my poor wallet.

And Pokemon Conquest was fantastic (Though I'm sure the crossover ends with Samurai Warriors characters, as much as I would like a crossover with Capcom's Sengoku Basara...)

It's definitely far too early to be making any definitive calls about this game yet, but my interest is piqued.

For future reference, calling it right now that the difficulty of this game will be the most asinine in Nintendo history. Just saying.

Doubt it. Most modern Nintendo games are pretty tame in difficulty compared to the past. As for Intelligent Systems and Atlus specifically, none of the Fire Emblem games starting from the GBA era (FE7 and beyond) match up to the difficulty in FE4 and FE5, and Persona, Strange Journey, and Devil Survivor are also cakewalks compared to Nocturne.

To be fair, whenever we have Shin Megami Tensei in its name, "cakewalk" doesn't mean easy. DeSu still had the Bels, which were fairly difficult to an average player, and SJ has Ouroboros, Maya, and the bosses in the end-stretch. And then there's the possible encounter of the fiends when you're underleveled in SJ.

Are you kidding me? Even on H5, all you had to do in Shadow Dragon was turtle at a chokepoint behind Generals Wolf and Sedgar. It wasn't challenging; it was tedious and boring because they nerfed the avoid formula (from Spd*2 + Lck to Spd + Lck/2) so you had no choice but to tank on every attack.

In New Mystery of the Emblem, you have the overpowered and versatile My Unit at your disposal along with Catria, Palla, and Caeda/Shiida. You're also given not one, but two Jagen-like prepromotes to carry your team in the earlygame until they get enough levels to stand on their own.

There is also the poorly designed Endgames against Medeus that can be cleared in no longer than a couple of turns with some staff usage.


One of the reasons why I put FE4 and 5 at the top for difficulty is because the old SNES games used a single random number to determine hit confirms instead of an average of two random numbers like modern FE games do now. The two random number system makes it far more likely more the player to land a hit with over 50% and for enemy units to miss with under 50% rates. You want to complain about the RNG screwing you over? It happened far more often back then.

Yes, use equally asinine characters/strategy to deal with asinine difficulty. This applies to every FE, including 4 and 5.

I'll give you the RNG though. Refer to the picture above.

Shadow Dragon and New Mystery of the Emblem also had outdated mechanics from the originals like Marth and Thieves being unable to promote as well as Marth being the only person allowed to Visit villages and Seize, making the games harder than they should be because of the inconvenience.

I think an actual newer installment to the series like Awakening would be a better indicator of modern Intelligent Systems difficulty.
