Well, this isn't something anybody was expecting! Square Enix and GREE, Japan's leading mobile social gaming network, had a joint press conference in Japan today. They announced a new mobile title, The World Ends With You -LIVE Remix-, which will start service Winter 2012 in Japan! Due to the overwhelming success of The World Ends With You -Solo Remix-, the decision was made to create a social network version of the hit 2008 game!
Note that there is little information on this game and more will become available in the coming days, but it only appears to be a social network version of The World Ends With You.

Within this Reaper's Game, Players will scour each area to find and defeat "Ringleader Noise," which as the name suggests, lead the small fry in their assault! They boast significantly higher stats than your standard run-of-the-mill Noise, so keep your guard up!
At the beginning of each week, Players will be randomly assigned into teams of 20. Competing with a rival team, you'll rack up points during your search for the Ringleader Noise, so work together if you want to achieve victory, and a reward wouldn't hurt either!
Aiding you in the Reaper's Game is a new Reaper created specially for Live Remix named "Atarashi Koko" (affectionately named "Live-chan" prior to her official reveal). She'll be your guide as you traverse through Shibuya fighting for your survival!
For those of you who've played the original game on the Nintendo DS or THE WORLD ENDS WITH YOU Solo Remix on iOS, the battle controls should be familiar to you! Tapping and flicking are a few of the commands at your disposal to control equipped pins, each with a unique ability. With all those pins available, be sure to try them out to find a combination that works best for you!
More info on THE WORLD ENDS WITH YOU -LIVE Remix- continues to come out, this time as an interview with Producer Ichiro Hazama, Director Tatsuya Kando, and Co-Director Hiroyuki Ito by Famitsu! Along with the interview are some new screenshots from the game that will be released later in the year on iOS and Android devices.
We will update this article with translations of the interview soon!
■ Background of development and direction
- In August 2012, the iOS version "The World Ends with You -Solo Remix- has been released, is there any history developed in this work?
Tatsuya Kando: During the production of the iOS version, we were thinking about adding a new social element, and I had planned an axis mode that ultimately played a part in battle. The project had expanded more than expected, and it was good judgement to release it separately as there is a history that led to this decision. So, when developing the original version we shelved, I included a play based on "treasure hunting" or "playing tag" using the stage of Shibuya, and I was able to showcase it as this social app, -LIVE Remix-.
Ichiro Hazama: Since it was planned as -Solo Remix- first, and then I heard that we were planning to separate the two works, I thought “What?”. (laughs) But, because these works are divided into two, the appeal of each stands out. I think it was the right decision for Tatsuya Kando to work on them separately.
- Divided into two works, why have you decided to release the other one with GREE?
Hazama: While working independently on -LIVE Remix-, I decided to consult GREE. Then, it happened to be that somebody was a big fan of “The World Ends with You” for the Nintendo DS. The conversations went smoothly from there, and I was happy to be together with GREE. In this title, with me being the creator of course, I think it’s important for everyone to love the work of the people who are involved.
Kando: In “The World Ends with You”, there is collecting pins, working with a variety of people in order to survive, and since there are many elements from the original that lean towards being social, it was easy to blend it as a social game.
Those of you who have purchased THE WORLD ENDS WITH YOU Solo Remix may have woken up to a strange surprise this morning: a new update! For the game that is.
TWEWY Solo Remix Version 1.1.0 boasts various additions, which are listed below:
・The following perks are now available after seeing the super-secret ending: ・CDs obtainable only by trading with friends can now be purchased ・Pig Noise Pins obtainable only as drops can now be purchased ・Mingle PP can now be earned from non-mingling practice matches ・Psychs now trigger more easily when scratching ・Various minor bugs were addressed
However, the biggest addition is most definitely the arrival of a brand new shop, owned by none other than Coco (formerly known as Atarashi Koko)! First seen in THE WORLD ENDS WITH YOU LIVE Remix, the mobile social game made in partnership with GREE, she acts as a guide for the player as they spelunk through Shibuya, teaming up with 19 other Players in a mad race against time with another team and defeating Ringleader Noise.
The owner of Coco's Secret Reaper Shop, she offers 3 items to aid Players in the Reapers' Game and a total of 9 BGM tracks available to play in the menu! However, they do come at a cost. These items actually require real world money to obtain! Well, with the world (or at least Shibuya) in your hands, sacrifices must be made for the greater good!
What could her arrival mean? Could it be a hint that the social mobile game LIVE Remix is coming our way? Discuss it with us in our forums!
