Black Desert Online

(This game looks amazing!)

It looks good but...

Seriously does every new Korean MMO have to have Dragon Nest style gameplay? They don't even try to be different any more.

Welcome to MMORPGs.

Western MMORPGs: All tab targeting with skill bars
Korean MMORPGs: All ARPGs
Japanese MMORPGs: Varied but 99% shovelware

Pick your poison.

Did they ever? -stares at legions of WoW inspired games with a single 'revolutionary' gimmick-

XIIAlexIIX 09-09-2012 10:47 AM

Dread 09-09-2012 12:59 PM

wow those faces...

Mega 09-09-2012 01:36 PM

Hoping it's a 100% open world compared to the get on a boat/go to a portal and then go in missions like Lunia/Vindictus/Dragon Nest~

Tea 09-11-2012 07:17 PM

o gosh.. i need a new graphics card to even attempt this.. :{

EDIT: just rewatched the faces on these people.. those look pretty life-like. I'm guessing its gender locked. LOL @ butch female w/ axes running around.

Black Desert Online - Sandbox Action MMO
Here's one to look out for. If you mixed Lord of the Rings, the Civilization series and C9 along with a pinch of Lunia/RaiderZ, Black Deserts is what you'd get.

Black Desert Online is a free-to-play fantasy MMORPG with amazing graphics and a large scale sandbox world to explore. The first game from the Pearl Abyss studio (founded by by the original producer of Continent of the Ninth) includes a variety of features, from spectacular horse riding (including horse-drifting, a feature inspired by Red Dead Redemption) and combat to strategy-oriented castle sieges, trading, the option to buy any house in the cities and more. There’s even a parkour element to the character movement, much in the way we’ve seen in Assassin’s Creed.
(Watch in 1080p)

BDO has:
-HOUSES! You can build your own house in the game.
-ARPG Combat, because if you're playing point-and-click in 2013, there's no hope for you.
-SEAMLESS world - no loading times in between maps.
-Thirds person OR first person view. You can change this, depending on what you want to do.
-Fully-functional economy and political system - elections, taxing NPC shops, etc.
-RTS elements, siege warfare.
-Guild vs. Guild combat
-Combat on HORSEBACK! :D
-Ridiculously realistic character faces. The Black Mage looks like a human being.

The only bad thing I have to say about this game, is that the word looks a bit TOO realistic. It looks like Medieval Europe. I wish there were more fantasy elements to it, because the only fantasy I see are in the Mage characters and enemies, not the world itself.

56K warning. :P

Been following this for a while, they're supposedly starting public testing in July. It's basically being indie developed in Korea by some team of like 10 people named PearlAbyss, and its already years in the making. It's getting huge hype over there too, but I'm not sure how they're going to follow up on this. I sure hope they develop enough content for like 3 decent content updates before they even bother releasing this, because I feel like developing new content for such a high-detail game would take forever. Not sure how patient people are willing to be.

Needless to say, I'm waiting on this and Blade & Soul, not that American computers are good enough for them anyway.

EDIT: beta announcement article for anyone who is interested -

Gameplay/class vids, fresh off the presses!

I think Archer looks the most interesting right now.

Real-time sky:

Real-time wind:

Real-time day & night system:

The game looks pretty nice.
Its unfortunate my current machine can't handle it. I might have liked to try it out.

Griever 04-13-2014 02:06 PM

Combat System looks more fast-paced than I pictured, which is a plus.

Character Creation

Light 04-13-2014 05:08 PM

I was going to dismiss this, until I looked up and saw real time sky and wind videos.
The graphics seem to mimic the goal of Skyrim modders, which is far from a complaint, if you've seen some of their work.

Character creation may take a day in its own right, though you'll likely lose your character name by that point.
It astounded me that we're finally given 3d modeling adjustments beyond the basics. Major game companies take note.

Probably has the option to turn off screen shake, every game does.

Mega 04-22-2014 01:46 AM

I just hope this one doesn't disappoint like Vindictus did ._.;
