Japanese Elsword won't start

I've already downloaded the client (yes I used Japanese ip as well as ie--though it killed me to do so lol), but when I try to start, either from win explorer or hangame, I just get this popup:

Any ideas what the problem is?

means something along the lines of checking the client. its most likely patching and will take a while (top characters say version, bottom says checking)

hmm odd... I just downloaded the client so it should be up to date, and I'm pretty sure I've left that pop up running for a while with no results. Maybe it's some sort of glitch and it's not connecting correctly to check. That wouldn't make sense either though, since the patch checker window always pops up and runs its progress bars, saying it's up to date.

Sometimes it will actually begin to start but I just get a small black "elsword" window, followed by a large one. And then it closes and nothing else happens. Wonder what that could mean.

Tell you ahead of time, to play JP Elsword, it's a bit annoying to work with because I think VPN works better.

You only need the VPN all the way until you hit game start. While you patch, it'll just fix the connection and you'll be able to get in the game normally.

mobilefree.jp used to work, but I don't know if it works anymore. I use to play using PacketiX. Well I hope this works for you in a way.

Thx for the response.. I was indeed using a vpn (figured that out early by trial and error xD), but i still had the problem. Actually it would start sometimes, and a blank elsword window would pop up..but then it would change size, stall for a moment, and disappear. Any ideas about that?
