You know, my first Legendary found was something better than I was already wearing, to my surprise.
Yes, I quite am. One thing that I really like to collect and send to the Stash are gems of any quality and legendaries that I've personally collected. Even if it may be worthless, I just like seeing it in my stash for some reason.

Tossed in the AH and got 12k for it. Hah.
You should have totally saved it instead of throwing it away like that for a piddly 12k.

Melee characters don't interest me at all, so I would've have had a use for them.
And I hate being a packrat. I enjoy it at first, but a couple days of hoarding later and I feel nothing but regret and annoyance and the clutter.
If it has a low level requirement, it could be useful for whenever you make a toon.
But it does seem like getting a Legendary superior to your current gear (if they're at the same level range) is a rather hard find.
Well, Wizards ARE ranged, which means they'll do quite well if they're played right.
As for tanks and more DPS-made classes, they'll do just as fine if they have good armor/STR and DPS. Of course it'll be a more dull fight and a lot of melee, but that's how it is. It doesn't mean it's necessarily easier to be a Wizard. Barbs are made to deal the damage, Wizards aren't. So obviously, they /have/ to be all over the place to survive, especially in Hell and up.
Barbs and DHs probably do more damage at the spot than Wizards do ranged. Wizards are meant to delay them so melee classes take less damage and have it easier when tanking. /capt'n obvious
Look who I found while farming Whimsyshire in Normal mode (if you don't know what Whimsyshire is or never been there, don't look as it is a pretty huge spoiler [pretty sure most people have been there already though]):
Also, Meowington found another similar monster, though his find is a lot more epic:
