If you've been to GDC before don't forget to register before Dec. 18th to take advantage of the Alumni Discount!
If you are a member of the games industry (or interested) GDC is the one conference you do -not- want to miss. It's a conference where scholars, professionals, CEO's etc all gather to discuss the most relevant topics of today's video game/electronic entertainment industry. It is an amazing conference held once a year in San Francisco, CA. It is also a huge source of inspiration for those of us currently in the industry and a great place to find job opportunities for those who aren't.
2009's conference will feature 9 different summits: AI, Casual Games, Game Outsourcing, Mobile gaming, IGDA (international game developers association) education, independent games, localization, serious games, and worlds in motion. It will of course also have the career and show expo, 400+ sessions, panels and inspiring keynotes.
I highly recommend that if you can afford to come and/or have an employer/school willing to pay for it that you come to GDC, every year I've been amazed at the fantastic people I meet, the valuable lessons I learn, and the renewed sense of meaning for the game industry I walk away with.
PS- there are also some great parties, be sure to check them out!
