Virtual Dub recommended settings.

I'm becoming a little stumped on good settings to compress out a good quality video from virtual dub. It either takes so long to compress and ends up still being ridiculously big or it takes 3 seconds but looks like a bundle of fuzz.

Anyone have any preferences they use? I can't seem to remember what I used to do.

Not one in particular which is one of the things I'd like a recommendation for.

Xvid.org: Home of the Xvid Codec

It's free. It works well. In Video > Compression > select xvid, click configure, and just move the slider for quality. About halfway is a good compromise between quality and size. (Go figure.) Experiment to get whatever quality and size you desire.

Thank you very much, that one worked well. I believe I had this codec on my previous computer as the logo looks very familiar.

It works really well, even at the best quality option, the file isn't too large.

ffdshow would be a nice codec too..
