Best AMD CPU for gaming?

What's the best AMD CPU and what specs should I look for when buying? Budget would be about 1500$ USD..

Dual Core or Quad?

I don't really know much about AMD, but from what I hear I should get just a AMD 64 Dual core for best performance for games..

And if anyone knows how to build comps, I could buy a AMD motherboard and explain from there?

ATM, im using intel duocore 3.5gb ddr2 ram, nvidia geforce 8800gts alpha dog xx edition overclocked. IT runs perfectly smooth when its a 2 player party and not many monsters on the map. but when theres 4 players or more, it gets laggy and hard to combo.. Im looking for an AMD which will allow me to play same smoothness as when i get when i play with 2 ppl in a party. even raids of 8 ppl to be perfectly smooth and no lag at all.

reccommendations?

Any reason AMD instead of Intel? Because from what I hear/read, Intel is beating AMD in every core (ie. dual, quad, tri, etc.)

That's why I'm going AMD with my new computer, whenever I buy the parts that is.

AMD is better for gaming, because it's got less pipes for information to process which makes it more efficient.. i think its 2 or 4 pipes, where as intel has around 8 pipes.. though with multi-tasking intel is much more superior. Im getting a new cpu purely for gaming atm..

Ive found a computer tech place that actually lets you choose an AMD motherboard and CPU and they will build it for me for an additional $50. The rest I have covered.. ram graphics card, HD, etc..

Thus, which lowers my budget.. I want to know what's best motherboard and CPU i can afford if my budget is around $300 US each.. and if so, which brand of AMD. I hear ASUS is best? And of course, with multiplier unlocked..

I think this is the best choice, quite cheap too.. $239 US.

I prefer a motherboard thats best suited for this CPU, and for heavy graphics games in the future.. dont want anything short-term.. what brand do you recommend for the CPU? I want something that I won't regret going cheap on, and not insanely expensive for a small performance boost.. can you send me a link? Also, Id need a computer case or does it come with it? I hear some computer cases cant find some kinds of motherbaords n CPUs, so what should I look for in a case for this cpu?
