Of Nations, War and Destruction

We were supposed to write seven compound sentences, each using a different conjunction. For, And, Nor, But, Or, Yet, So. I decided to push myself further and go the extra mile by writing a short story following those requirements.

It's actually a back story from a game I played a long time ago (see if you can figure out which one) that I changed a number of events (especially the ending) in order to make it a short story. But you can tell from the context that there's a lot more to this story than what I wrote.

-------------------------------

Of Nations, War and Destruction
(Now with more conjunction!)

The war between Kislev and Aveh has raged on for so long, yet not a soul alive remembers what they’re fighting for. All they know is the pointless cycle of violence, and that war has been unkind to both sides. There was a time that Aveh had gained the upper hand, but an organization by the name of Gebler sold ancient and powerful weapons to Kislev to even the odds. Now with the addition of these weapons called “Gears” added to each nation’s arsenal neither the kingdom of Kislev, nor that of Aveh were winning. The gears were introduced simply to keep the pointless struggle going, but human suffering increased tenfold.

Eric was dragged into the resistance by its leader and Kislevian prince Bart who was tired of the war, so the two men worked together to bring the battles to a close. However, it was not the destruction of Aveh, or that of Kislev that heralded the end of the fighting. Both countries were destroyed by Enoch, so there was nothing left to fight for. It’s kind of hard to fight a war with no countries, for there’s no one left to fight for either one.

-------------------------------

You might've noticed I used "but" and "so" in two compound sentences each (total of 9 compound sentences instead of 7). It was difficult to tell a story without a little repetition, but I figured I'd leave it as is for continuity and such.
