Because SOME people are stubborn.

I usually don't find many things ridiculous. Honestly, I could care less about people's problems, but if they come to me for advice, I'll gladly give them some, as well as my opinion. I'll try to understand and care, because I'm that type of person. Lots of times, they won't take my advice, argue back my opinion as wrong, and just let their life fall to more frustrations. All I can say to that is, "Well, your own fault for asking help and not taking it in the end."
Whatreally frustrates me is the fact that some people complain to me all the time, and when I encourage them and deter them from their depression, I get a "Well I can't be like you!" or "I'm completely useless, I can't do anything." Seriously? Seriously? Half of these people that I console say they console other people. Well then, does that count as something "useless," cheering another person up and caring about them more than yourself?
People really are shallow sometimes. I'm probably sounding like a hypocrite now, but at least I know my faults and I try to fix them when I can. But others, nooooo, they say other people are selfish when asking for help/needing a person to rant to, yet once they themselves ask for help/a person to rant to, they become that same selfish person they were just complaining about. Its just plain hypocritical, and worse off, they don't even admit it.
Well I guess its better complaining here than complaining to another person q___q

You probably already know this...
There is nothing selfish about asking for help, especially if they are asking it early before things get worse. I suppose (debatable) that a selfish act is going and asking for advice and then not putting any effort into acting upon it. Just remember you must be the person in many people's life that they feel open enough to tell problems to. I only trust one person enough to talk my problems through with.
I guess the issue in all this though; is the fact that most people are unable to take criticism. There is nothing we can do about it. If they cannot realize that, improving on mistakes becomes hard.
So keep being their buddies; hopefully when the time comes they will be able to help you.
And hi Hana, long time no talk
