The Holy Grail of Vidya, Part 3

Posted 01-31-2011 at 06:48 PM by Ethane

With the Supergrafx permanently put out to pasture, the Super Famicom (Super NES) had arrived on the scene. Confident due to strong sales, NEC enjoyed a comfortable second place to Nintendo throughout Japan's duration of the 16-bit era. The PC-Engine's CD system is what guaranteed this success -- there's so much more you can do with a game when it's on a CD as opposed to a tiny, limited cartridge. The system enjoyed a multitude of...

The Holy Grail of Vidya Part Deux

The Holy Grail of Vidya Part Deux

The Supergrafx was pretty much a mystery to the west when it was released. It was a PC Engine with more muscle, with two hot, but quickly cooling Capcom properties. What a lot of people also wanted to know was if the system really was 16-bit or not.

See, back in the "bitwars", this whole concept of "bits" was taken a keen interest by the consumer like none other. This was just not limited to cartridge ROM size, but...

The Holy Grail of Video Games - Part 1

Posted 01-29-2011 at 09:57 AM by Ethane

Air Raid for the Atari 2600 is this horrible, completely unentertaining mess of a game shat out by some fly-by-night company during the advent of the great Video Game Crash of 1983. It wouldn't have been considered rash for a gamer to simply toss his copy in the trash after it was apparent that video gaming was dead in that boring spring of 1984. Fast forward to day, and Air Raid is considered one of the single most...

Labels and Made-Up Words

Posted 10-26-2009 at 10:10 PM by Ethane
I'm no fan of arbitrarily labeling people, and by that I mean completely obvious characteristics. Now descriptive and pertinent labels I like. If a person is a saint, a samaritan, a smartass or just a complete idiot, I'd like to know. This lets me know if I ever want to deal with this person or not. Subjective, sure, but for the most part it works -- if everyone says that a certain person a complete basket case or an ambulatory drama station on two legs, I will do my best to avoid them. ...

Internet Atheists: No thanks, not interested

The other day I came across this blog entry - /forum/blogs/soc/174...godhaters.html - which is a pretty fair rant and assessment about an ever-growing annoyance on the internet.

There's two types of atheists: the regular every day adult atheist who manages to be well-adjusted in society (think Penn and Teller), and then there's the internet atheist. The internet atheist is nothing like the former, he or she instead prefers to evangelize...
