ggFTW forum & site activity

Posted 08-28-2011 at 04:19 PM by Ayu
No, this is not a complain, it's actually almost the opposite! Sort of.

ggFTW has an amazing community that I've fallen in love with. The last thing I would want, is for the forums to slowly die and end up with only a handful of regular posters. (Quality over quantity, though.)

The only negative thing I have to say about the website, is that it lacks a certain activity. Other than that, the place is as warm and welcome as it can get, with so many amazing users and staff members.

What can we do to improve the activity?

The first step, IMO, would be to let users KNOW about us. The userbase is rather large, but we need them all to engage! ggFTW already has a lot of reasons to stick around. The main reason would be the community, then there's the contests, giveaways, beta keys and other things that'll motivate people to give some more interest.

Why not push it even further?

So many people out there play video games and MMORPGs. Just look at how many forum sections and awesome reviews we have up. The most active places on the forums seems to be the sections for specific MMO games. This is totally fine and it's very good to know the players engage to use our forums to trade, buy, sell and make friends.

Personally, I would love to try and give them more than that. I want them to know this is not only a place for game related posts and news, but it's also an amazing hangout and "the place to be" when you want a break from your video games. Helping and contributing is something anyone who wants, can do.

As for myself, I'm gonna start by advertising the website and the forums. I want people to associate me with ggFTW and know about it because of me. I want them to be happy that they discovered it and regret they didn't come here before. :3

A lot of my e-friends (lol term) play games and tons of them are into the type of games we are known for. They would love it here!

While we're on the topic, I am not quite familiar with exactly this topic, but.. what about a reward program? I know there's the regular vBulletin referring system, but let's be honest here. Who uses that? Even though I invite people on a forum, I completely forget about that feature and I'm sure a lot of the users do as well. It's a nice feature but it's a very forgotten one.

Either way, what if we got points for referring someone? And then we got more points for their activity and so on? I'm not talking about ~major~ rewards, just something to do for fun to keep us motivated and going.

------

Aaaaaaaah, I have so much I wanna type here, but I'll cut it for now and write a version 2 later on.

We've tried to hold events for referring people. In fact, the last referral event we held had a grand total of $80 in prizes ($50 for the top winner)

    4 people participated.

The $50 prize winner had 3 referrals.

The staff is at a loss on how to get the community motivated to share the community. What we need is for community members to share ggFTW with their friends, guilds, and fellow players. To date, nothing we've done to motivate our community to share us has worked.

I encourage you (and anyone reading your blog) to keep sharing ggFTW with your friends. Post about us on your blogs, use us in signatures on game forums, and link to us anywhere you can (that isn't random spamming or in violation of other communities' rules).

Only by spreading the word (and backlinks) will we continue to grow.

Thank you so much for reading and commenting. ♥
It's great to hear from the "boss" and his opinion.

The slight issue I see is that you've done everything you can but it doesn't seem to work that well, unfortunately. You guys are rather creative too, I'll give you that.

We do have a lovely community, it's not about that, but I'm sure tons of us would love to see it more active. I don't wanna feel bad for posting 10 posts and see my nick all over the recent posts for several hours until someone else say something.

Either way, yeah, I will do my best to spam, advertise and just GET IT OUT THERE. Hopefully everyone else have, is and will do this too~ :3

Yeah.. I get a fair amount of daily visitors so SOMEONE has to find it appealing. :<

Also put it in my forum signatures around the web, my Last.fm profile, Twitter and what not. The word needs to come out; ggFTW is amazing.

And uh, correct any mistake or add suggestions for the post please, you're more familiar with ggFTW than I am~
