Default Sleeping issues...

I've never had problem with sleeping before x_x I normally get to sleep within 10~30 minutes of laying down (seems long for some people, but I'm okay with it), but for the past 2 nights I've had no sleep at all, it's really killing me because I'm not tired when I lay in bed, but when it comes to going to college I'm /REALLY/ sleepy, which is even worse because I develop headaches from being in class (I use computers ALL the time for my course, as soon as I get a headache I do not want to do anything x_x)

I make up for the sleep I've lost by going to bed as soon as I get home from college, but it ruins my day because I can't talk to my bf/friends while I feel like this, I also get only 1~2 hours of sleep this way ._.

I have no issues whatsoever, nothing on my mind, just trouble sleeping... I always read newspapers and stuff when I go to bed to relax my mind, but for the past few days it just hasn't been working... any tips for relaxing at all? Anything ;-;

Aww.. I recommend trying to take a break in the middle of using your computer, cause yah a big problem about using the cumputer too much is your eye sight and, sometimes even the brightness of where it starts making your head hurt. What I say you should do is take some Tylenol PM, take a nice warm bath before going to sleep, and drink some hot tea.. The warmth should calm you down or atleast sooth you a bit. Hopefully you'll start seeing a change..

I sometimes get like this too, and I can be SUPER tired, go to bed and lay there for hours unable to actually sleep despite how tired I am.

I suggest calm music - nothing that's going to have you singing along in your head, or too loud.

Watch a movie in bed, this always gets me sleepy, I can never finish a film.

Make sure your body is satisfied - don't go to bed hungry or thirsty.
Some say warm milk or something before bed can help you - though I wouldn't know as I don't like milk ;p

Tire your body out, do a few minutes exercise to make you feel like your body needs the rest before you go to bed.

Take a shower in the morning, or earlier in the day, so it wont wake you up before you sleep - I find having a shower too late can keep me awake.

I agree with these, music can always take you away from all the stress built up. If you need any help finding some calm music, I got some (cause it's mostly what i listen to) feel better!

Don't take afternoon naps. If you miss out on sleep at night, don't catch up during the day or you will develop a cycle. Try to get up at the same every morning even if don't have school or sleep late. If it's 8 am, keep it at 8am. Again, no afternoon sleep.

If you have no stress, consider this as just a hiccup...you'll get back to your cycle if you don't rely on afternoon naps.

Things that might help:
- Warm Milk (Yes, warm!)
- Honey
- WARM shower - 2-3 hours before bed. Warm showers gets your body warm but then once you get out of the shower, it begins to cool, making you sleepy.
- reading boring stuff

All of the above are what my doctor suggested.

I have struggled with sleep for years. I would go to bed around 2am and not fall asleep until 4 or 5. It's painful to hear that damn clock tick away! (Now I have a digital clock ^^)

Anyways...you'll be fine.

I always have my college physics book near my bed as a last resort for sleeping problems

If you have trouble relaxing, try this
While lying down (any position), tense up all of your muscles
Then gradually release the tension slowly limb by limb and let yer body slump into your bed and pillows

Thanks for the responses guys, I had a better night sleep last night... maybe posting this made me sleep 8D?

I really cannot take a break from the computer in my course, one lesson is 1hr 45 minutes long and we have a really strict teacher, we could get a 'concern' put on our school profile saying we haven't done any work, however I do wear glasses... it helps a little bit

@Red - I seriously do try to not sleep during the day, but sometimes I just can't help it >: if this happens again I guess I'd have to try and stay up, but the more I stay up, the more pain from a headache I get ;-; painkillers work for like 20 minutes max for me...

I always make sure I've had enough to eat/drink before I go to bed, but I do bring some snacks with me if I suddenly become hungry

I'll try all of the above methods if I seem to get like this again tonight :3

Soaking your feet in warm water before you sleep helps as well.

Make yourself cold then cover yourself with a blanket and get to sleep.
Works for some people.

Make your room as dark as possible.

Sleep at the same time every day, following your sleep cycle is probably the best.

Milk has something that helps relaxing, it doesn't always work 'cause the body doesn't absorb it sometimes, also a warm shower can help... yea, not cold, not hot. Medicines that lower blood pressure are good but I don't recommend for obvious reasons, I have medicine before sleeping but only when I'm with a cold or flu (medicine for these lower blood pressure)... but it's kinda hard to get up the next day ._.

i'm very experienced with sleeping problems. one thing, most important. If you can't get to sleep, get up, do NOT stay in bed. It feels like crap. Get up, do something, then try again. And never look at the clock coz u will go "omg.. it's 3am and i'm still awake" that's making sure u will find no sleep for rest of night. and do not say "i want to get to sleep in your mind" that again, will have impact on your mind so you can't sleep.
Drinking warm / hot milk before going bed always helps.
Do not nap, it screws your sleeping hours especially that u can't sleep at night already, napping is bad in that case.
Exercise during the day always good. And associate yourself with your room to sleep someone, so when u go into your room, your body knows that it's a place for you to sleep. i.e. do not do work and stuff in there, take them out to the kitchen table, living room, anything u can think of.
Best of luck with getting to sleep <: i been counselor before for sleeping issues so i kinda know what i'm talking about ^O^

Sorry to burst your guy's bubble, but warm milk doesn't actually help you sleep at all (in a way it does, but it's more psychological rather than the actual milk helping you). xD

http://blogs.webmd.com/sleep-disorde...-or-false.html

But... yeah. Basically everything that has been said before are all good techniques.

I have personally experienced sleeping problem and that's what helped me. If you find it not useful / true, then don't try / agree with my methods. It's as simple as that Vith.
