Default A bad habit regarding how I sit...

Normally in my computer chair I am sitting on a foot, or large portion of a leg (which'll include the foot, always right-leg too), this usually doesn't present issues but...

Today for some reason (it's to be expected but this usually doesn't happen) it made my foot go numb. I wasn't paying attention, so when I got up to stretch I tripped. I thankfully had something to "break" my fall (something to hold on to before I landed face-first).

Long-story-short I hurt my foot slightly in the trip. Nothing serious, but I really don't want this happening again. Any suggestions on how to try and stop this (or is this just one of those things that I either outgrow/don't outgrow/learn to live with)?

Change sitting positions from time to time. Sitting on your leg-foot will block blood flow there, so not all your muscles will be working properly.

If you feel your foot/leg going numb, move around a bit. Sit on the other leg :P
I do the same thing, but it doesn't really bother me that much, only the tickling feeling after the blood started flowing through it again, i hate standing on that.

Anyway, as everyone one else has said, move around a bit, don't allow it to go numb if it worries you.

I have this problem too actually...my foot doesn't usually go numb, but I think this position gets uncomfortable after a while. I think this is a really difficult habit to get rid of...but I am trying just to remind myself not to do it.

I don't know why I only do this at home, not in public.

Coz you get too comfortable at home lol. Its not like you would sit on your leg or foot in public xD

Try rest your feet on something instead of sitting on it.

I've had this problem for a while now and it doesn't help that I have poor circulation to begin with. I'm always sitting crossed-legged or just putting too much pressure on my left foot/leg. I do it mainly because it's incredibly comfortable. At one point, my left leg had suffered so much from this that I ended up having a slightly numb leg for months on end.

I have a small foot-stool underneath my computer desk which I rest my feet on when I suddenly realise I'm sitting on my feet again.

I know what you mean, but I actually find it funny when this happens. It happened to me when I sat in my chair resting my legs over the armrest for about 2 hours, when I got up I just collapsed which just made me laugh. Luckily I have my bed next to my desk btw.

I know this is a hella old thread, but don't you guys get that stinging sensation that your foot is falling asleep? That's a warning sign that you're clogging your circulation and you need to shift your sitting position and get your weight off that limb.
